The old diesel-engines "like" that, no problem. But you should consider a shorter oil change interval. I have the options in Brazil between low sulfur and 500ppm-Diesel and I prefer the 500ppm. I noticed, somehow I've less issues with with "fungo"/water in the diesel.
The old Merc in my...
Hard to say, but if, then not as much as you mentioned. I have a Merc OM314 and I don't have a big difference between 10ppm or 500ppm Diesel.
EGT up- or downstream of the turbine? Mine is running with a retrofit turbo in idle a little bit hotter, the other values would fit for mine as well. My...
Me too. Unfortunately my engine. But it runs like that pretty fine. So only the scratches are not the reason the engine is not willing to run (but they don't help either)
I know from the old Mercedes Engines, owners usually use the 15W40, for mostly cold areas it will be the 10W40 and the 20W50 is only used, if the engine is degraded and has some issues with the oil pressure. It's kind of a workaround avoiding the overhaul (or at least changeing the crankshaft...
Just a general thought: I would take engine speed over load (mostly high load means also high egt, high stress).
I usually drive mine at low rpm but more load, but under this uphill conditions, I try not to floor the pedal at low engine speed.
If you have a egt-meter, use this, usually higher...
Well, then you're almost 20years ahead of me :)
Got it. I would drive it like this now, as I said, there are more or less "cheap" turbo upgrades possible.
I think Diesel vs Gasoline is more something like a personal thing, some like it, some none. And I guess, a lot of people (maybe not here, but more in general, at least, when I take them on a ride with mine) think of lots of torque when they think of a Diesel-Engine, which is the case, if you...
Brazil (Sao Paulo Area):
Diesel: 0,94$
Gasoline: 1,14$
Ethanol: 0,77$
a liter.
I guess I need to drive my truck more often, I anyhow drive it a lot. Not a Sunday-Afternoon vehicle anymore :)
And everybody loves it, I was last weekend invited for a BBQ (kind of thanksgiving down here) and...
A 10W40 or 15W40 is fine, you can use one of the HD-Truck-Oils, they usually have a good package of additives. I guess you don't have the problem with high sulfur diesel, right?
Brazil - Sao Paulo
Gasoline: 0,88 USD/ltr
Diesel: 1,24 USD/Ltr
Ethanol: 0,76 USD/Ltr
But rumors are around, that the prices will go up soon. It'S hard to predict, Brasileiros like to gossip :) It won't change anything anyhow.
It might look affordable, especially compared to europe...
I fitted a turbo on a old DI-Engine which was never meant to have a turbo (Mercedes OM314). There was only one rare modell with a turbo, but the intention was never more power, it was used to reduce the RPM needed to work in a agricultural machine.
The "tricky part" is to find the right turbo...
I'm not familiar with the 1hz but a rule of thump is: rpm / 1000 in bar oil pressure
Idle at 600min-1 -> 0.6bar oil pressure (maybe 7.5PSI)
1500min-1 -> 1.5bar or 22PSI
3000min-1 -> 3 bar or 45PSI
often the limits by the manufacturer are a little bit lower, so the upper values are on the...
Well, it's a DI-Diesel (mechanical) designed for Trucks, so it feels like a real (little) truck engine. It runs pretty rough (no balance-shafts or whatsoever), but it has lots of torque in the midrange.
Some people complain about the behaviour when the engine is installed in the Mercedes Busses...
Well, not Toyota, but down here in BRA it is the Mercedes OM364. -> Mercedes-Benz OM364 engine - Wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_OM364_engine
It is a 4 inline diesel engine with 4Ltr displacement and comes in the standard-version of the Bandeirante just normal...
My LC is not so fast, usually cruise speed is around 55-60mph, at this speed no issues with the temp. Also going long climbs at that speed, the engines stays below 1000-1100°F. The engine only makes 3000min-1 and feels most comfortable at around 2400. But I'm not pushing it.
It is actually a...
Good morning,
I have a old OJ50 Bandeirante (j4-type-Landcruiser) witht he OM314 Diesel Engine from Mercedes.
I bolted a turbo on it (still planning for the intercooler, but not now) and I have a EGT-Indicator between engine and turbine.
The engine has no features, a normal turboengine has...
Brazil: actual 7.67 R$/Ltr ~ 5.59$/Gallon
(Gasoline 4.78$/gallon ; Ethanol 3.08$/gallon)
Also kind of expensive for Brazil. Gasoline is stable and maybe goes down a little bit, Diesel is getting expensive. I now drive more with my Outlander (Gasoline ENgine).
