I just want to put my vote in for a HJ61, because I have one, and it's AWESOME!! Parts availability isn't as dire as some are saying here. So far I haven't run into a show stopper yet.
I considered a diesel swap into a 60/62 prior to buying my HJ61. After learning about importing a 61 with the factory Toyota diesel I had to do the pro/cons list. So, after buying a semi clean 60/62 (Let's say $10k), finding an engine ($5k-$10k), and paying someone to do the swap ($5k-$10k...
Gotcha, for some reason I thought that was adjustable. I'll make note and get it as close as I can to the original spec. I'll order parts tomorrow and update the thread as I go. I recently replaced my calipers with rebuilds in the front and will have the rears adjusted at the time of install...
Alrighty, I think I found some replacements that will be suitable and not cost a damn arm and leg (aka new genuine Toyota parts). Unless there are any final objections I think I will try this combo:
1991 80's series non ABS brake booster
1989 FJ62 master cylinder
Gotcha, you had me going for a minute! Lol
So, I think I'm going to look at a 80 series booster and master cylinder (non ABS) as an upgrade. Any final thoughts before I purchase?
I'm less interested in calipers and rotors and more interested in the booster and master cylinder upgrade. I recently purchased new replacement calipers because one was freezing up and causing the rig to swerve to one size while braking. Now the pedal feels very soft and I'm looking to improve...
So my brakes are feeling like they might need some attention and I'm wondering if an upgrade might be in order. Has anyone done the 4Runner upgrade on the brakes of an HJ61? I'm thinking of replacing the master cylinder and the booster if possible. Would I need to do something different with...
When I do my gauges I will either take out the temp display by the sunroof controls and put them up there or have a performance shop fab up some gauge pods to go on the "A" pillar. I'm still undecided on those two locations.
BTW, this build is looking great!!
I did the same thing the first time I changed the oil in the wife's BJ71. I have been changing oil for 20+ years and never made such a mess!! After that I got an open top oil pan similar to this and left the top oil fill cap on while doing the oil change. So far it's working!

Yep, direct bolt on
Depends on what you want made, Jason can help you better on that.
Well would you look at that!!! That looks like the perfect solution for us 24 volt guys. Dare I ask a price?
I had one of those too!!
I replaced it with this, much better!
From the research I have done there is no easy wiring for a 12 volt trailer. It's either run a second converter or run a bunch of relays. The easiest solution for me is going to be switch the bulbs in the trailer to 24 volt and...
