I'll go out to the barn and take a look later....haven't stuck my head in there in 9 months. But I'm thinking they are "insert molded" meaning the steel is placed in a mold and the plastic shot in around it....meaning no way its coming apart. I'll verify that.
Nice truck and build! Wish my 82 was anywhere near that clean. Wanna sell that bed lol.
Looks like someone took a grinder with cutoff wheel to that spindle - maybe to cut off a bearing race.
Another good thing to do is to connect a boost gage to see what you're actually making. Chances are the waste gate spring is weak after 35 to 40 years. Adjustment depends on the turbo model.
Thanks for the pics! Looks like a pretty clean install all things considered. The Ford starter solenoid works but the engineer in me wants the glow plug system to function factory like (the colder it is the longer it glows, plus glow while cranking.) A glow plug relay ($) came with my...
Nice score - especially with the diesel in already. No vacuum on the IP at all? How does the motor shut down?
I have a 1985 300SD and I'm considering the oil filter housing relocation kit just because of the location considering how often I change the oil.
Since you mentioned the start of...
Welcome to Mud. I can't help you directly but MarlinCrawler and it's forum are great for all things first gen powertrain. Someone will likely come along here more knowledgeable than me but you might want to check over at Marlin in the meantime.
I rebuilt the carb on my 82. Not really that hard, lots of small parts take lots of pictures. Clean clean clean. Give it a shot for the cost of a rebuild kit.
And also if the challenges prove to be too much with the early truck wheels you have - early Tundra steel wheels/early Tacoma spare wheels work but are 16".
A different look from what you are after however. I personally wouldn't grind calipers or run spacers but that's me.
BTW I believe this is the look you are after. And also from my reading you will have clearance issues with both calipers and the steering on an IFS truck. Throw the wheels on the front and see what you get.
This is in the 60 series specific section but lots of information here:
Steel Wheel Thread
Also down below there is an entire sub-forum on wheels and tires with a ton of good info there including several recent threads on steel wheels.
My DD is an 1985 Mercedes 300SD. And I've got a OM617 on the stand as a spare - but I'd like to drop it in the 62. (I know less typing more wrenching.) At any rate I've been researching mo power over the stock 125HP. For a motor that's been out of production for 35 years (in cars...
"Better" but how much better with the 22R(E?) constantly floored. I brought home a 15' Jayflight towed by my 3RZ (150 HP) Tacoma and I topped out at 55 into a stiff headwind.
There's a guy restomodding an older one around here somewhere. This one is in much better shape than his. I...
The Deluxe model was marketing BS. Power steering was as add on option on the Deluxe trim level.
I think mine is a Deluxe with manual steering and vinyl floor covering. SR5 is the true upscale desired trim level.
Believe it or not....go to Bonanza.com and search Toyota pickup. I got my clamshell for my 82 there (in blue....but my truck is blue.). Shocking amount of reproduction stuff there.
Nice score on a nice truck. Treat it right.
I think this is a holdover from when flashers were bi-metalic strips that heated up when current passed thru. They heated up and bent opening the circuit. Then they cooled, closed up and made the circuit again. This also made the old school blinker sound under the dash. When a bulb burned...
Don't suppose you need another parts rig - but this is about 30 minutes south of Toledo - claims the motor is tied up. Trying to sell the bed primarily.
