Is the brake light on as well? If so, the is a "charge light relay" located in the passenger side kick panel. Try unplugging and see if the light goes off.
Can you not get an OEM gasket w/o trim for that year? I bought one for my 1st gen 83 and it was available with or w/o the trim. I think the gasket is the same as the w/o the trim has a recessed area where it appears the trim should go.
The installer commented on how much better quality it...
I ran an Aussie in the front for over a year with no issues. Swapped it for an ARB because I wanted a selectable in front. Have had an Aussie in the rear for over 5 years with no issues.
If you have the high pinion from an 80 series, then any locker that fits the 80 will work. The HP is a bolt-in replacement for the standard low pinion diff.
If it came from the factory with 31s, it probably has 4.56 gears. Nothing much you can do to improve gas mileage or power on the 3.slow motor. 33s will reduce both mileage and power.
Had a 90 model for 10 years and 115k other than the headgaskets, had very few issues. Sunroof cables broke at...
The lines to the distributor are for vacuum advance. The 22r has a dual diaphragm vacuum advance and it runs pretty crappy if its not connected.
Not sure on the wiring for the fuel cut-off solenoid. Can check on mine when I get back to Dallas on Monday, if you haven't found the info before then.
Another low cost option would be Monroes (who builds the shocks fpr OME according to OME specs). I put a set on my 83 when I did the 4" lift. Not sure what truck they are actually for as I used Monroes specs to find ones that matched the length and mount type, but they work well enough for me...
The 1st gens have more rounded fenders, which helps with the tire clearance. I run 35s with the axle moved forward about 1" and with a 4" lift, the tires clear the fenders.
If the headgasket was replaced by Toyota under the recall, it probably won't cause any more trouble. The replacement ones were redesigned to correct the problem. If you have the VIN, your Toyota dealer should be able to verify if it was done.
Does it have the ADD system for 4WD? My SR5 did...
Have you ran a compression test? White smoke often means a failed head gasket. Are you losing any coolant or seeing any evidence of oil in the coolant or vice-versa?
As many miles as you driving on a daily basis, 5.29s might pay for themselves over time in better fuel mileage. My '83 on 35s...
ON my 90, I was able to disconnect the cable from the cluster and lube it with some speedometer cable lube. Usually had to do it every year when the weather started getting cold. Never did break, tho..
Are you setting it at 5 deg with the distributor advance disconnected and plugged? If so, does the advance change when you reconnect it?
On my 83 carb engine the timing is supposed to advance approx 8 deg with the vacuum line connected.
I'm not sure if the specs changed for later 22Rs or not, but for my 83, it is set at 5 deg with the vacuum disconnected. Reconnecting it should advance the timing by 7 deg, giving you a total of 12 deg at idle (950 rpm max). If you're not seeing the 7 deg extra advance, you may have a bad vacuum...
Mini-truck axles used only solid rotors. If you want a vented rotor, you'll need to get rotors for a FJ60 Land Cruiser and switch the calipers for ones from an IFS truck (86 and up). For increased stopping power, get calipers for a 90-95 V6 4Runner. Those have 2 large pistons instead of one...
I was able to disconnect the speedo cable on my 90 and lube it without tearing apart the dash. I can't recall exactly how I did it (it was nearly 10 yrs ago!) but I'm pretty sure I was able to reach it from underneath. Hint: small arms and hands help.
I would agree with WarDamnEagle, try a shifter bushing first. If it doesn't help you can pull it out an use it in the new tranny.
If his 82 has the original tranny, then it's likely an L50. The L50 & L52 are interchangable (L52 is stronger). Both are the same length (approx 20"). Later G & W...
