You get condensation with or without the rainfly
I've been in a downpour where the ground below turned into a little river underneath the tentcot and I was totally dry
The rainfly makes it more confining since you can't open up everything to see out of, but it works

i like sleeping in the truck. never had any condensation problems
you can't really sleep very well w/ the 2nd row seats. maybe 1 person sleeping diagnolly. if you take them out, you have plenty of room for stuff and stretching out.
the only problem is if you carry a lot of stuff, you have to...
i have this one
Sport Chalet - Slumberjack Stowaway Table-black
my feeling is the best are ones that do not have plastic hinges or moving parts.
I like mine a lot - packs small and quickly - but i question the long term durability of the plastic parts (which are crucial to it's function)...
anyone heard of it? It's compared to the Columbus at 1/2 the price. Is it avail in the USA?

Eric,
I've carried gas cans on the back w/ CHP, local heat and sherriffs cars behind me. The most any police officer has done is wave at me or give me the thumbs up.
I don't know of anyone that has had a problem with this.
What the cops could stop me for is no rear mudflaps but I've never had...
skillet,
does manafre have it's in stock? the website says they are all individually orderd and take 90 days...
oh that AO Touring drawer looks tempting...
50lb Columbus would be close to perfect but the cost/weight ratio... whew.
just a brainstorm-
if there was a low-profile ladder that could lock in between the Columbus and roof of vehicle, it could free up the tent to be a bit thinner...
honeycomb/aluminum laminate floor would be a ton lighter...
Mike, I've looked at what's out there and the Columbus & Maggiola seem to be the best compromise of all factors.
It would be cool if they were lighter but even the carbon one doesn't cut too much weight ( I think about 20lbs?)
From what users tell me, there is no condensation problem in the...
you could use an air matress to even things out. Alvarorb does that w/ his wife and it seems to work out for them.
you can see it here

I've seen the 3/4 rack on Alvaro's rig many times. I cannot imagine it any longer than that. It seems the perfect size and I always thought of it as a "full length" rack. I wouldn't want it any longer, jmho
mike,
there are several (the columbus and maggiola use the same outer hard shell I believe)
there is also some good photos of a carbon fiber Columbus on a 80 opened & closed - in the rooftop tent thread
I had one just like that and I gave it away to my neighbor. I guess I'm a nicer neighbor than yours! ;)
It's a POS, but for $25 not bad. Bag of ice in a normal cooler works better w/ more room, imo.
