Ivan Stewart ran a 500+ HP 3vz-e based engine in his race trucks for a number of years. A guy just recently auctioned off the remainders on ebay. Could easily build another one... for about $150K
There is more to strength than pinion tooth count. Contact surface is just as important, like you mention, but setup (and brand) is important also. I've seen more 4.10's go than 5.29's. I've also seen more 4.88's go than 5.29's - both of which were in street and mildly wheeled rigs.
Sure -...
That's incredibly poor and innacurate information. 5.29's are plenty strong if setup properly - I've run them in 3 vehicles residing behind crawlers w/o a problem.
You are also incorrect about Reverse Rotation gears - When installed in a HP pinion on the front, the pressure will be exerted on...
TG, Marlin, AP, Sky, FRORF, OTT - they are all the same. But throwing the tierod behind the axle , on the opposite side of the DR introduces different forces. Now the forces are not in-line headin the the same direction, they are actually pivoting on the PS knuckle studs. Lock the driver's...
The only steering system that puts additional stress on the passenger side studs is the Trail-Ready setup... It's a very nice setup, but the PS side gets abused.
Incorrect. The 5M can use the frame mounts but not the motor mounts and can use the G/W series bellhousing. The 7M-GTE requires more motor mount work and CANNOT bolt directly to any 22r series transmission. It requires a custom bellhousing in order to bolt to anything (recommended R150/151)...
You'll be much happier w/ the R150.
Buy the adapter from inchworm. I've run two marlin adapters, and I *think* Jim's adapter has a better seal at the splines to help thwart the issue of tranny fluid flowing into the tcases.... but not flowing back. Bad juju. I know Marlin's can be fixed...
Not familiar w/ the G54... What engine did it sit behind? The G52 was behind 84-88+ 22r's, w56 behind the 22re's with some w58's found in a few 2nd gen 4Runners w/ 22re's. The 150 was behind the 3.0 and 3.4 V6 and the 151 behind the 22rte. If you can get your hands on one of the latter two...
that looks like it's a G52 tranny - if so, it's only going to last to the end of the driveway before you blow the thing up. Even if it's a W56, you're only good for about 180lb/ft of torque w/o risking blowing it up.
For a mini truck tranny behind a v8, you'll need a R150 or 151 (which...
