    Builds Marvin - '76 FJ40

    1. Done, posted a pic in the What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week? thread. 2. So far I've skipped over #2, re-fixing the radiator repair that's perfectly fine. Depending on #5, I may take it to the radiator shop and have him fix it. I'm not confident in my soldering skills...

    Builds Marvin - '76 FJ40

I went and paid up the DMV fees awhile back. Not sure why they don't send renewal notices, but I'm guessing it's 2 years due again. :( Last time I got moving permits and planned to get it tested the PS pump started howling, so I never went. Then I got a new mountain bike and procrastinated...

    Builds Marvin - '76 FJ40

New ones are a year out, and I have no windows, so protection from the elements is relative. My trip to the canvas shop will be multi-purpose: to get this one patched good enough to keep the sun off my head for a year, and to find out what their quote would be to make me a copy or 10. :idea...

    Builds Marvin - '76 FJ40

I never said much in this thread about my soft top and bows. The Bows are mostly OEM that I got from Craigslist maybe even before I got this truck. The over-door channels and the brackets for the rear bar came from Ehsan from Pakistan. I don't remember where I got the windshield channel...

4:1 xfer case options for FJ60 with 5.3/4L60

Even my long-slip shaft that's balanced is noticeable above about 40mph.

    Bobbing an 80 series

I've done that in photoshop a few times... It's way easier than doing it for real and satisfying for a moment or two.

Talk me out of this - IFS/IRS Yaris 3cyl powered FJ40 buggy

If you drop down to 37s (or 35s), all the other problems will seem less of a problem

4:1 xfer case options for FJ60 with 5.3/4L60

Because you hit top gear on the 2wd sections in between the hard parts. It's happened to me, but I don't "hate" it. That's a nice setup. It baffles me that they don't sell those. I would think they'd sell quite a few. If I had one I'd play around with 10:1 a lot.

Talk me out of this - IFS/IRS Yaris 3cyl powered FJ40 buggy

How about a cj2a with that motor and 35s? I'd go with a VW diesel if it were me. These are bigger than 35s, but you get the idea. There are also some single-seat Honda-based buggies that are pretty neat.

Are the cool kids still doing springovers?

No help there. I could only tell you where they ended up on my frame, and re-reading your post, I didn't use FJ60 fronts. Carry on.

Are the cool kids still doing springovers?

You mean measured along the spring? If not, it depends on the weight on the spring.

FJ40 Full Floater Axle Build (IH8C-CLIPS)

Great. I had a seal go bad in my narrowed 80-series axle, on the long side. I never worried that we might have warped it before reading this thread, but it would make a lot of sense. We welded the perches and an anti-wrap bar on that side. It has the factory gusset on the bottom, though...

Are the cool kids still doing springovers?

I'm a cool kid. I did a SOA with 60-width axles, a cut-and-turn as well as CV driveshafts front and rear. It's a bit tall, but awesome. I may dig into it again someday and try to bring it down a bit, but it's pretty awesome for now. I have the sway bar that would bolt onto the fj62 front...

Hey, I'm new here and just bought an 1978 FJ40

You only need fluid in the front diff if you're using 4wd. In 2wd with the hubs unlocked, nothing in there is turning.

    TRD Supercharged 3URFE 5.7 Tundra powered FJ40

The factory 4-speed would probably hold up ok. Getting a clutch that matches and hold that much power will be the trick. You'd have to ask @orangefj45 about which t-case to use. Either an Orion or split case. He would know which is technically stronger. With that much power you'll want the...

    TRD Supercharged 3URFE 5.7 Tundra powered FJ40

With the 6 speed and a t-case, your driveline is going to be about 3". Any thoughts on that? Good idea though.

    Brake booster master question.

Dual-diaphram 8" Toyota-pattern replacement booster coming in September from forum member @Racer65: With 14" rotors you might want to consider hydraulic. (?)

    Ruffstuff full float conversion

When Bobby Long made my custom shaft, he welded a ring onto the shaft and turned it down to the correct size to match the original shaft; no speedi-sleeve.
