In case anyone wants to 3d print their own, the STL file is attached. I have the solidworks sldprt file if someone wants that, just ask.
cheers,
george.
Wow - I like the solenoid setup in my 1980 era 8274 (started as a 24V winch):
Essentially the same function as the OP's solenoids, just looks neater :) Ignore the wiring comments, since they are for reconfiguring the solenoids for 12V operation versus 24V. Both the 12V and 24V winches use the...
The worry with Amazon is that there's often 'reviews' for different products 'mixed' into the blend. Amazon really is quite an awful place as a seller and can be quite frustrating as a buyer (their search sucks hugely and they love to push the 'sponsored' stuff since they charge quite a bit per...
Oh, checked mine and they are Made in the US. So, the amazon reviews saying 'cheap china junk' etc.... well, unless the new ones are made in china, then I guess it's cheap US junk...
And yes, I DO like my bluesea switches, fuse distribution boxes etc.
cheers,
george.
^ pretty interesting damage (in one of the amazon pics).
I can imagine that since the cables mount to the studs and that whole back section with the studs (let's call it the stud plate) is held as in my pic below with 5 tapped stainless screws, having the cables unsupported and stresses on the...
Generic China 'stuff'. I wouldn't trust it with winching loads. Can find the same product on aliexpress - so doesn't instill faith. Obviously targets the big audio type nuts.
You're not likely to find a (reputable brand) breaker that can deal with 500A on a 12V circuit. Some folk just use a...
^ Agreed. 3/8" is plenty adequate for an m12000. Obviously you want to use real dyneema of known quality. I also agree that splicing your own from bulk line is the way to go. Plenty of info on the web on how to put an eye on dyneema - it is VERY easy to do. And it's worth knowing how to do in...
The solenoids appear to be kinda 2 solenoids in one, so you effectively have 4 solenoids like most winches.
Anyhow, I'm guessing the wiring would essentially be the equivalent of ->

If you ever bump into anything, that style of 'guard' will just fold in and do much more damage to the lights, hood, etc. We call them damage multipliers for a reason.

^ Same here, extension in a heavy duty bag.
5/8" synthetic bought quite a few years ago on ebay from a fella that got off cuts front amsteel and back then a bargain. About 90' of it.
And yeah, good to have old school shackles and used them a few times my past trip to DV to rescue folk...
Ronstan is just a large marine supplier, their product IS the Selma product.
I got mine (new) from an Ebay seller that accepted my $50 offer, free shipping.
So, look around and find a similar or better price. They are Stainless and made in Norway.
Anyhow I agree, working with synthetic to...
I picked up a set of Selma Fids and they cover a whole range of rope sizes. After using them for several 7/16 eyes and soft shackles, I can recommend them - easy to use. For the dyneema winch stuff that doesn't have a central core the whole process is quite trivial.
I could see cases where...
Just to clarify, dual batteries does not usually mean 24V. Most folk will run dual batteries to have a main 12V as the starting battery and the aux battery to run 'house' loads like a fridge etc. This is still a 12V system since the batteries are not in series, they are in an independent 12V...
For a simple on/off, Bluesea has a fairly compact unit.
https://www.bluesea.com/products/6006, plenty good rating for a winch load.
I use one to isolate all my aux battery loads, just in case... An overkill in my case, but I had it spare when I went to a larger 4 way bluesea for the winch/jump...
Well, you could give the 8274 to a mate and he can then pull your 60 out when needed :)
8274 on the front of my patrol to pull him out.
On a 60, an m12000 would do pretty good. I have one on my 80 and it has some serious pulling power. Just make sure you have the battery/batteries to...
My worry-wart alter-ego would be concerned if you are using the antenna switch to directly switch power to the winch solenoid/contactors that it can handle the current. Wouldn't want the contacts of the antenna switch to weld closed when in use... I would be inclined to have the antenna switch...
