This has always been my fear about buying U.S. made tires here. I feel a bit better now that the owner of the 4x4 tire store here, selling Toyo, Hankook and Maxxis, is a club member and vouches for the quality of his product.
Ok the morphed 80...interesting but it somehow weirds me out/
As to the OP, whatever happened with these guys, anybody... or maybe they are just lurking here in the shadows...
As funny as parts of this thread are when I have mentioned that the school bus, however modified, was the...
Those are very similar to the Toyo Open Country A/Ts that I run. I love the tire on the highway but not so great around here off road. Unfortunately for me very little sand here, mostly volcanic mud. Guys in my club run mostly the Maxxis Buckshot or the Creepy Crawlers. I'm looking for M/T...
Glad to hear it. Yeah the wine there is really nice. If you have time see if you can take time to head down to Mendoza. The country side was a little scraggly looking when I was there last but the vineyard tours and the good wine for cheap was spot on.
Great build. I need to ask about the base truck, is that one of those dual cab/extended cab HJ45s? I haven't seen any of those in this part of the world or in real life for that matter? What is it's history, former mining truck from Oz perhaps? I ask because this is the truck that I'd get as...
Josh,
I wanted the Toyo Open Country M/T but they didn't have them in either 33 or 35s at that location. I ended up with the Toyo Open Country A/T, 33s, and am happy for an 70 % on road/highway tire. If you can get the M/T get them as they have a fairly aggressive tread and are radials. I...
Josh,
Here they are selling Hankook and Toyo tires primarily with one place selling Maxxis for off roaders. There are a couple of BF Goodrich places but their selection was pretty sparse. If it were me I would buy exactly what the guys were running on those 80s in the desert. I would think...
Sounds great. I'd love to have you come on by, grab some hot pizza and cold beer and take a look at my rig. Progress is going slow but going. Things ought to be farther along in September. Just let me know when you plan to make your run.
cruiserguy thanks, good to hear from you are you back in Canada or still down this way in Guat? Ok, if my high school math doesn't fail me 90 liters is round about 23 gallons U.S. Seems like that is about 5 gallons more than the 40 tank. 23 (60 tank)+18 (40 tank)=51 gallons. At the 40 series...
Peter, a little off topic maybe but what diesel engine is in this rig? My son is looking at 4Runners, so there is my interest. Also any info from you guys on a good site to go to to learn about 4Runners. I;ve been to yotatech. (Possible hijack over:grinpimp:) Thanks.
Josh,
Hey, how are you and where are you these days? I haven't stopped thinking about this topic and in looking at the options I totally forgot about 60 tanks as aux tanks. What is the capacity of an OEM diesel 60's fuel tank? Thanks.
You do know that you posted in the Expedition Build forum, for people who are building rigs designed to travel thousands of miles through mountains ans deserts, etc, right? I think that you may be looking for the Harcore etc build forum. Just a thought.:meh:
Amaurer,
Tapage is right you have mudders ready to assist you in Guatemala, El Salvador (me), Costa Rica and Panama(Tapage) and it sounds like Tapage has some folks in Nicaragua. I know my 4x4 club knows guys in Honduras as they come over here to wheel. How's the trip plan going? As I am...
