The '80 has factory power steering, but I imagine I will opt for this setup, as it's undoubtedly stronger. Oh... thanks for the pics!

Don’t know if you read everything or not, but I am selling this rig because I purchased another one. Also to help fund an HDJ80 purchase. Never the less, I did make the mounting holes as close to the shock tower as possible. Thanks for the info, though.

I thought that one looked awful big and obtrusive. Since I cut quite a bit out, my plan was to weld some good, thick angle on the back of it to give it's strength back.

Sorry... no updates lately. I've been doing a lot of thinking since I bought my beige 1980 FJ40. I have decided that I would rather put my 1HDT in that one instead. So, I've been working on putting 'Old Blue' back together, while fixing what I can and trying to make her a little nicer along...

This evening I fitted the 60 series power steering box to the 40 frame. I still need to find or make some bushings to put inside the frame rails, weld the backing plate, and install some proper hardware. I will also reinforce the shock mount where I made the relief cuts.

I've had some super tight pitman arms on my Samurais in years past, but this 60 series might be the tightest one ever. I didn't think it was ever going to give up. Had to get tough with it.

Decided to rebuild my 60 power steering box myself. Ordered a Gates rebuild kit from Rock Auto today. $30 shipped.

Had a few other things to do in the shop this evening, so I didn't get a lot done, but I did manage a few things. I removed the old steering box mount, removed the steering linkage going from the old box to the drag link, and removed the front shocks. I also removed lines and linkage from the...

So I got my FF rear end yesterday. I haven't unpacked it yet. Been busy. Apparently, someone had swapped the axles on this one at some point. The full float housing also looks strange not being painted. Maybe someone had swapped this to disc brakes at some point? I don't really know what...

Man, I really appreciate you sharing that with me. I can't believe I haven't run across that yet in all my searching on here. I'm not finished reading through it yet, but it looks like there's a ton of good info in there. I had no clue that was you that rolled the 40 on the interstate. That...

Got the rest of the body lift blocks off. Also got enough of the stock height body mounts on to allow me to mock up my engine/trans when the time comes.

I removed the steering wheel and steering box in preparation for dropping the body back down to stock height for mocking my engine/transmission/t-case up.

Removing the lift blocks a PO installed. It's much more of a pain than I thought it would be.

So I've encountered a few people who have put a 1HDT into a 40, and they have offered to be of help when and where possible. However, I would really love to find a list somewhere of items needed for that swap, or items that may or may not want to be used. If anyone knows of any additional...
