100% new brake system 0% pedal

Yup this one had me beat… I simply couldn’t believe a minor miss adjustment in the push rod could make such a big difference but you were right man. In hindsight I think the entire travel of the master cylinder piston is maybe only an inch or so so if you’re off by a3 of an inch that’s a...

100% new brake system 0% pedal

You were right. This morning I remove the master cylinder and was able to gently set it aside without disconnecting the brake lines. They make a tool for measuring it but I think I was able to do it satisfactorily with my caliper and some straight edges the push rod from the booster was...

100% new brake system 0% pedal

I have everything put back together, and hit it hard with an upgraded pressurized bleeder which did take out quite a few bubbles, but still not where it needs to be. I thought I would hit the brakes so to speak and start checking out some low hanging fruit, for one thing I have no idea how many...

I mistakenly thought an earlier WC that fit the baking plate would work, I was not aware of the difference in bore Diameter. I see what you mean , if you scroll down there are some after market options.

In my best John McClain voice while he’s crawling through the duct work in Yaqui Toma Plaza…….. “ come out to the coast, will restore a non-USA FJ45, have a few laughs” The hits just keep on coming. So in addition to the soft front brake circuit and incorrect wheel cylinders I also had a mild...

Thanks PAL Here are some batter pix The lines to the MC, could not be crossed to the wrong port. The lines go across the firewall to psg side, then drop to frame rail. There are two T,s one to the front, one two the rear. Here is where they could get crossed. I plumed it as it came to me...

100% new brake system 0% pedal

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback I really do. My goal at this stage is to confirm if I’m chasing air in the system I did adjust each wheel cylinder independently and buy equal amounts with its mate. And brought all of them to the point where the wheel simply will not turn at all. The purpose...

Before I waste any more fresh brake fluid I’m really trying to get my brain around what law of physics forces the air out of these cylinders. Both cylinders are mounted vertically and the fluid entry and exit point is midway on a cylinder. By design that’s gonna leave an air bubble trapped at...

Okay guys time for a sanity check. While I realize I have the incorrect wheel cylinders and also appear as the true factory replacements for this unique beast are not available. So I went back in the shop to try this test please let me know if my reasoning is flawed 1. When I isolated the...

Why is it the most painful wounds are self inflicted? As far as I can tell I ordered and installed all the incorrect wheel cylinders ( again this was before I realized what a special and Unique girl I was dating). The OEM numbers do not match up, and it appears the correct OEM numbers might be...

Thanks that is next on the list, I think PAL is onto to something with the incorrect wheel cylinders up front. I'm doing some digging this AM

Got it my question is - Does the front most port on the MC feed the Front or rear brakes? There is an outside chance at the frame rail the lines are crossed. I have it plumbed the way it came to me but that's not saying its correct...

100% new brake system 0% pedal

Curious- the fittings at the MC appear to only fit one way, However across the engine bay and down on the frame rail where it joins a T fitting, I wonder if those can be crossed? On the MC which fitting is for the front and which is for the rear?

Thanks for the tip. Here is what came out. the replacement wheel cylinders are generics for an older 40 with front drums ( I ordered them 2 years ago before I realized how non standard a non usa sled is)

For sale- ‘82 FJ 45. Looks good…..runs ok…..won’t stop….. no reasonable offer refused. It’s almost to that point, confirm the back brakes were OK bye isolating that circuit the wheels would spend but I had instant pedal within a half inch or less and it held pressure great. Went through both...

Great advice on isolating the circuits. When I blocked off the front circuit the rear was rockhard with no pedal travel at all what should be the case since I cranked out the shoes. When I blocked off the rear circuit the front pedal went soft just as before at least now I know where to focus...

100% new brake system 0% pedal

That’s what I’m leaning towards. Given my symptoms ( too much travel) one or more of the push rods are too short ( do I have that right?) Are three two rods? One pedal to booster Two- booster to master?

Just finished a two man bleed- no joy ( zero bubbles at all). I have one more option, not sure if it’s a good one or not, invest in a pressurized bleeder, pushes fluid from the wheel up to the resiv so gravity is on my side, in case there is an air pocket trapped in the line. I was thinking...
