I'd say the additional weight is negligible. It generally depends on surface area. The hood I'd guess is 3 to 6 lbs heavier. It's warped, I mean you could skim it with bondo I suppose and smooth it back out. I'm not sure on additional bracing. I guess it really depends how much you added.
The hood did however have a couple of cracks on both sides. To keep them from spreading and to repair them, I drilled a couple of holes on either side of the crack and welded in a splint. I then welded the crack and ground it back smooth.
I welded the spring perches, and blasted the bib myself since it fit in my cabinet, I was expecting it and the hood to be full of bondo since this was a Costa Rican rig but they both came out nice.
The galvanizing place I'm using this time has a $250 minimum charge and with the 40 frame alone falling under that, it made sense to do my other m416 trailer during the same go. I tore it apart last week.
Been busy blasting parts and welding up some holes on this 40 over the last week or so. The hood had three holes in the center front for perhaps a aftermarket ornament at some point. Someone had also installed 70 series turn signals at some point and moved the hood latch hooks up on the hood. I...
Obviously the trans will be changed out if the B variant is used but dimensionally it will be the same as the 2f/12ht variant so it will stay in place for my purposes. The B input shaft is longer and the B diesel has a longer bellhousing so for mock up this is ideal. If I had used the B trans I...
This thing is BEEFY... good decision not building my own again. Brackets are burned in, time to pull the 12ht and see if everything still fits for a B diesel.
Took some measurements from my other 40 and ended up spacing the rear trans isolator up 1/2" to match the driveline angle. Since I don't have a tub sitting on this I can't really tell how much higher I can push the tcase up but this is where my other 40 is at and it doesn't hit the body on it...
