Mechanic found where the oil leaks are. First one is the oil filter housing and the second is the rear main seal. On top of the catalytic converter replacement it should take care of all of the issues I'm currently having and get me back to baseline. Next up is a full bushing refresh on the...
There’s a possibility that it could be the PCV valve. It’s an easy thing to check and clean or completely replace. You can search PCV valve on the forums and there’s bound to be a great write up on how to get to it. I’d link one if I had it, but I didn’t look.
I assume these two hoses carry fuel? Is that something that I can just buy and replace from an auto part store? They’re both so brittle.
Here’s a pic of my PCV valve. I’m having a P0420 code, so before I replace the cats I’m trying to figure everything out upstream. I’m also going to clean my...
Perfect. That’s the kind of stuff I’m looking for once I’m in there.
I was going to get entire new LCA and UCAs for the front. Seems like Toyota didn’t want the ball joints out and the options are either full OEM replacements or low quality press in options.
Probably so. The bummer is that they didn’t really do any work under there besides the shocks/springs. It needs a full refresh of underside bushings front and back. I think I’m going to pull and replace the upper and lower control arms in the front and back and do front and back sway links and...
The tough to reach VC bolts on the driver's side closest to the cabin were loose as well. Tightened everything up and hoping they help seal the leak. Used more Purple Power degreaser and cleaned up a ton. Day by day figuring it out.
I have some Berryman fuel injector cleaner in the tank now...
Ok. I don’t notice any more weeping from the valve cover on the passenger side, but I’m still getting a collection of oil right at the flywheel window. I attached a pic of a mess I see on the drivers side right above the front corner of the oil pan. What would be above that that may be leaking...
Radiator is new with fresh red fluid. Timing belt was done at 153k and I have 222k now, so I still have a while. heater tees and heater hoses are new as well. Most of the control arm bushing and ball joints look like they need some work.
Since I am a new owner and want to get everything back to baseline I am planning on doing all fluids over the weekend. I made a short list, but is there anything anyone notices off the top of their head that they'd check right after purchase?
Oil and filter changed
Tires rotated
Driveshaft...
Is there an OEM kit that they sell that includes the spark plug seals, valve cover seals, new bolts, etc.?

I found this and I am pretty sure it is OEM with all things needed. Should work on the LX470 as well I'd...
Sweet. Thanks for that techstream link @Jram100 . So, when I get it, what exactly am I looking for? Are there other issues with the P0420 code that will keep me from needing catalytic converters?
Also, props to @ClassyJalopy for the idea to just snug the bolts on the VCG. A couple of the lower...
Ok. Next topic. Check engine light was on for a P0420 code. Thought it may be able to be fixed by changing the O2 sensors. Swapped all four, drove 15 miles, and the light is back on. Catalytic converters? Have any of you had to have them replaced? Easy to do DIY?
I got the valve in where I can see the VCG. This photo of the passenger side looks like an active weep from the passenger side at the back three bolts. Anyone else concur this may be a good place to start?
