The detachable leads helps putting the light back in the case, it's really not a big deal. I like the dwell option, but I haven't used it yet.

The light has 1 lead that clips on #1 plug and a pos and neg leads to the batt. If you run points it has a lead to the neg side of coil for a dwell reading. It's not required for timing, volt and tach.

I think I bought the same timing light a couple of yrs ago. It has all the functions i was looking for. 👍

An old school rad shop should be able to recore your rad and reuse the old top and bottom tanks if they're still good. Everything between the tanks would be new. Or... They may be able to remove your tanks and rod out your existing core and reassemble the tanks. This would be dependant if the...

Button head socket caps are bolts with a rounded head. If you squint they sort of look like a rivet.

I think there's two bolts on the inside of the tcase that need to be removed. Looking at your internal tcase pic, it appears there is still one bolt holding it together.

If it's not grease stopping its travel and it's actually bottoming out, drooping the suspension to install the drive shaft is a bad idea. If the ds can't compress then that'll put pressures on the pinion or tcase when the suspension moves. You could break or wear out things. Are you sure it's...

You mentioned you liked the 3 on the tree, so just to open up possibilities. I believe @Skreddy along with @65swb45 successfully adapted a 4 speed to 4 on the tree. I think Skeady was working on a kit.

You can put a vacuum gauge on it. After tuning the engine and the vacuum needle shakes at idle, it is good an indication there is worn valvetrain components. In my experience most people lie about the fuel mileage they get. With that said, I started tuning for mileage. I've never cared to...

Probably the most common carb on a SBC conversion would be a 4 barrel, like Q-jets, edelbrock , and maybe a holley. I would look to see if Summit or Jegs might have a better option for your carb cable linkage. The heater control valve you reference can be found thru several vendors on...
