    Master Cylinder Rebuild - DIY

Inside the cover is pretty robust... probably unlikely anything is broken. If that clip hole isn't used, I'd put the part in and not think twice.

you can swap out that plastic cover from your old one... but it is a bit of a shame to have it damaged as much as it costs... perhaps you can get a few $$s back vs having the entire thing being sent back?

Great idea! might be a bit overkill, but no denying that it will come out cleaner and smoother than the option I used.

You can bleed the brakes with a vacuum assisted system.... but probably easier just to have someone to help. They don't need to be a licensed driver, any kid who can press the brake pedal over and over should work.

I'm guessing the commutator bar has to be pulled off and pressed back on. Could be very difficult to do for a home-gamer. I'm not seeing an obvious keyway on the armature shaft or in the image of the replacement commutator. https://www.groschopp.com/wp-content/uploads/armature-parts_small.jpg

If you have the snap ring off, it will come out. I ended up threading the nut back on with a smaller box wrench up against the back of the nut.. I then hit the wrench near where it is on the nut with a hammer and that was enough to pop the cylinder out.

I think those lights will come on if the booster motor runs for too long and/or enough pressure can't be built up. If you have access to the computer scanner software thing (can't think of the name right now), you can read all of sensors and values and get codes to help narrow down what the...

There is a plate with several holes in it, those holes have seals that are molded to the aluminum plate. If one of those seals is shot, it makes sense that you would get a leak right where you're talking about. You might be able to undo the 4 bolts that hold the ABS block onto the side of the...

the reservoir does have three seals on the bottom where it connects to the MC, one of those could be leaking. It could also be where one of the brake lines connects into the MC, or either end of the high pressure line that goes from the booster pump area into the master cylinder. I suppose it...

There are no serviceable parts listed by Toyota, and no diagrams on disassembly/assembly. With that said, they did have to build them, and put everything together, so it has to come apart somehow. On the front side there is a threaded cover which looks like it might be able to undone, but the...

    Master Cylinder Rebuild - DIY

I'm not sure anyone is able to rebuild the master cylinder right now.... but rebuilding the motor should be possible. I bought a new master cylinder assembly for $1,260.74 with shipping from McGeorge Toyota. It included everything but the motor and hydraulic cylinder...

Hold on to that motor and accumulator, you may need it someday! I also have a new (to me) master, should be arriving Friday. One work-around I've found that works 75% of the time. Turn the key to the on-position, but don't start the car. Let the pump build up pressure, once/if the screeching...

If you load tech-stream and monitor the data on the MCPS, it is a sensor that detects how much pressure is being applied to the brake pedal. My understanding is that if it detects a quick change in pressure, it can apply additional braking force beyond what is being applied by the pedal. You'll...

@silveradofab I agree with @Skidoo and @2001LC could be problematic. Perhaps look for a part number or something in the casting to confirm they are different or the same. @2001LC my brake fluid wasn't discolored, but there was something suspended in the brake fluid that was depositing itself...

    Master Cylinder Rebuild - DIY

@silveradofab I hear you... with my '03 approaching 18 years old, I'm more comfortable with drilling new holes in things to keep it on the road. I would be grateful if you tore into your screeching pump electronics to look for something that indicates the high pressure switch is broken. I did...

    Master Cylinder Rebuild - DIY

@silveradofab great update, thanks for sharing! This basically confirms (in my mind) that the check-valve in the pump assembly isn't at fault (at least not in yours). For me, this also confirms that the high pressure switch is getting stuck on and not properly detecting when the pressure is...
