Got some filler on the patch for the roof, and installed the 4plus battery tray. Thanks again Dave @lcwizard.
Funny thing before we headed to lunch, I put a couple of gallons of liquid gold into it. While doing a walk around totally forgot the rear plate was still on the rear doors, hence why...
Pretty good day. It made its first true road trip for lunch today. Still have work that needs to be done, but getting it out on the road gave the kid some motivation.
It’s not real pretty, we cut in some new medal using flat stock. Shaped the best we could, and some body filler, I’ll admit it wasn’t a lot of filler and it turned out ok, it’s just not show room quality.
Slowly, but surely a little progress. We also put a new fuel pump on the 327, that died this weekend. We used Raptor lining on the floor, hopefully next weekend we can put everything back in for good for awhile.
I ordered the 4plus battery tray, so that will get the battery back under the hood...
Little update still working on the little things, got the interior out and cleaned up. Found some rust under the wonderful carpet in the passenger side foot well. Will get that fixed here next, then pull the top and do some fiberglass work when we remove the RV AC unit.
Well, we have brakes. Just installed the brake booster and master cylinder. Still need to update hoses under the hood, and go through the front disk, and rear drums but it stops as it is now.
Also got a little bit of body work done. Driver side rear bumper was really pushed in, and twisted...
Great Information, Thank you. I do have the rear crossmember for the 2F, which I’m guessing can be modded to fit.
Let me ask this, How much does the transmission/transfer case floor cover change on the 40. Is a 71 (uncut) compatible with a 79. I’m guessing it changed design when it went from...
So let’s talk about that, it seems like the 327 moved everything forward, because the PO notched a piece out of the heater when it shifts to 1st and 3rd. See picture. I can feel void under the carpet behind the top plate. It will be interesting to see what I find under the carpet.
Yeah so let’s talk about it’s quirks, yeah for whatever reason the PO Installed an RV type AC Unit on the roof,🤔, they also completed the red velour interior for everything. They also for whatever reason installed the battery behind the passenger seat. It’s also a respray and not the original...
So some specifics, it's got a 327 under hood, not terrible, but not a 2F. I have spare 84 2F, H42 and transfer case that down the road we will look at changing back. The ultimate goal is to just get running and work on it as we go, and drive it. I’ve already made that mistake of going to far on...
Well last week I came across a deal, thru some friends of some friends. An FJ40 that’s been sitting in a barn from about 2000, (that really doesn’t seem that long ago). I went back and forth about even going to look at it. The owner wasn’t advertising, but looking to start liquidating...
