R DOT appears on factory replacement parts that would have originally had the VIN attached to them. Original heads had VIN plates on them.
You will see this on other replacement parts that were originally marked. Such as fenders, hoods and doors.

My wife's sunroof was found to be inoperative and we needed to get it open to check the sunroof pan drains. I opened it up and found a mouse-chewed wire in the harness right next to the motor. I don't know how the sonofabitch even got up there :bang:
You can remove the pans with the engine in-frame if you do the following:
Unbolt the front engine mounts and lift the engine up about 2 inches. Next remove the front sway bar and front driveshaft. You also need to remove the power steering pump.
