yep- it seems NWF has doubled the capacity and added a fitting for an external cooler. Id probably err on the side of caution and run an external cooler simply to quadruple oil capacity since these are small and probably dont have much oil in them with the planetaries crammed in there to begin...
I marked both lower heat shields and trimmed them up to sit just above the frame on both sides. Then cleaned up the merged downpipes and ready to weld on some extensions/downtubes to get by the frame with the same 3/4" gaps on either side that the flange wasnt allowing. They should follow...
Heres the standoff on the heat shields - just a tad under an inch tall. The headers have a collector Y and flange thats a cast piece and very beefy. My little plasma cutter struggled a bit maybe due to the old tip - but eventually got thru to pop off the flanges. These flanges have...
No plans to deal with Cali emissions right now- I have 3 rigs with cali registrations ( all pre smog 1975 or older) .....so this will be reg'd elsewhere and not throw any red flags as anything other than a vacation property rig. California is rumored to be cracking down on out of state...
We got it sitting at home at 1deg tilt- then raised it up to 3deg for tranny angle and decided to yank out the headers and do some clearancing. Here it is with straps repositioned and sitting at 1.2 deg tilt or so. Firewall wise - this has about a finger width of clearance on the closer...
The header heat shields have quite a bit of standoff. So on the drivers side - the lower shield was removed to clear the steering linkage and with a little wiggling/ and relocating of some drivers side brake lines......it squeezes in.
4.56 first gear and doubler - with .65 overdrive should be a nice combo for an 80 with stock 4.11 and 35's given 355hp and 385tq. ??? 7th gear is the same .845 ratio as the 80 tranny.....so if theres ever a jump to 4.88s.....the .65 8th gear will offset those nicely if ever jumping to 37s/4.88.

Dave @afraptor22 Slides on the new Blackbox Landcrusier box - doh! this box has the endplates for 6L80 gm tranny / same bolt pattern as the 8L90e.but just 1/2" shy. A quick call to Northwest Fab and
