Update! 80-series front prop shaft into a Troopy... Yea or nay?

final update! the prop shaft works! no more vibrations. it was a matter of finding the right machine shop where they actually knew what they were doing. would i do this again? hell no. if i'd known before i started that you could get a brand new, custom prop shaft from places like Tom...

Update! 80-series front prop shaft into a Troopy... Yea or nay?

thanks guys, we're on the same wavelength here regarding the balancing of the prop shaft. supposedly it was balanced by a good mechanic, but i'm always dealing with a third world situation here when it comes to tradesmen. most are not trained formally, most say they can do anything, few can...

Update! 80-series front prop shaft into a Troopy... Yea or nay?

Still vibing. I'll go ahead and call this episode a "learning experience." I'll probably go the Tom Woods way at some point and see if that doesn't cure this problem. Any other suggestions are, as always, much appreciated and welcome. Cheers.

ok, just got the prop shaft lined up correctly and re-installed. we'll see in the next few days how the vibration issue goes. big thanks to everyone who opined. as usual, i got very good guidance from the excellent mechanic brains inhabiting mud.

Update! 80-series front prop shaft into a Troopy... Yea or nay?

i've run her without the prop and/or with the hubs unlocked, smooth as silk. it's the prop giving me problems. now, rookie question of the day... what does the driveshaft "out of phase" mean?

Update! 80-series front prop shaft into a Troopy... Yea or nay?

Update! So we got a double cardan prop shaft from a mechanic in the Darien region of Panama (yes, the no-man's land where colombian guerrillas and indigenous peoples make life interesting). If only that prop could talk... Cut the dc end of that shaft and welded it onto my troopy shaft and...

Update! 80-series front prop shaft into a Troopy... Yea or nay?

thanks clint, great info and insight. i never wanted to get this complicated. the terrain tamer folks said i shouldn't have to change anything with only a 50mm lift, but maybe every 19 year old troopy is a little different.

Update! 80-series front prop shaft into a Troopy... Yea or nay?

So my 2003 HZJ78 Troopy is wearing out u-joints in the front prop shaft in the space of months. Vibration, joint failure, probably caused by the TerrainTamer suspension's lift (was supposedly 50mm but wound up looking higher). A fellow with a lot of experience in LC's down here says the...
