Do your wheels and tires, then get the alignment. Alignment best done after any changes to suspension, wheel/tire, or steering rack rather than before.
Thought I’d post a personal experience update. Installed a set of King KTRS-79 springs on my truck today. I’ve slowly been loading up the LX with drawers, roof gear, armor, and knew I needed some more support from the springs to help the longevity of the AHC. Here are my results loaded with a...
Hey Todd, welcome to the club. I'm not too far north in Cincinnati.
Re AHC, you won't be able to do a graduation test until you can go into L, N, and H. You can add OEM AHC fluid to your reservoir now, but that likely won't fix the problem. The pump doesn't care if the reservoir is low and will...
Highly recommend the King springs for anyone on the fence about new OEM springs. They’re not much more money, just have to go get them on eBay or another place that will have Aussie vendors. They seem to ride fine even on an unloaded truck and basically future-proof the AHC for any weight additions.
Agree with Indro overall. Most of the front or rear bleeding comes from the first globe you do. Hence only getting small amounts of fluid out when you switch sides according to the bleeding procedure that's been posted here. Obviously, bleeding all 4 corners is better than 3, which is better...
Update: added @suprarx7nut's excellent video and cheat sheet to the early posts in this thread as well as some basic research I've done about different AHC mods.
Some find adjusting the front affects the rear very little. It can occasionally increase/decrease pressures depending on how significant a change you have to make. I'd guess yours won't change too much after adjustment.
Take two or three readings each with temp sensor connected and...
Most here seem to feel pressures near the lower-middle of the range are best for ride, longevity, and give you wiggle room to load the vehicle up a bit and stay within spec. Yours are pretty good but if it's not too hard for you to make some adjustments, you can probably get them even better...
Good question. The opposite side can be done running or after restarting, setting to N, and then shutting back off. Probably best to turn it back off. You are bleeding a very tiny bit of fluid out, so the vehicle height drops minimally if at all. The point of restarting is to get all your new...
You've got it dialed in! Nice work. AHC is still one of my favorite parts of the truck too, it's one of those things that makes the LC/LX truly unique. Even the Land Rover air suspensions that they've been refining for multiple decades doesn't compare. And this community helps keep those AHCs...
I'm up to 194k on the original AHC "shocks" and globes. No leaks or weeping, still have 8 graduations from L to H. Will need globes at some point, but don't see any limit to the lifespan of the "shocks."
Do the maintenance, keep pressures in spec, and the system will treat you well.
It’s definitely not a 1:1 ratio. Some on here have suggested a 2:1 ratio (½” sensor movement changes suspension height 1”), but even that’s probably an oversimplification. You’ll have to try some small movements and see what you get. Even better, adjust the heim joint part of the sensor bolt and...
The car should be on a relatively level surface, doesn't have to be perfect perfect. Significant tilts/inclines will mess with things.
See my response to your PM for some other details you asked about.
Sagging overnight would be more concerning for a leak somewhere in the system. That can happen from excess pressure causing the shocks to leak, so see if reducing pressure helps. But your pressures aren’t so high that I would think that to be the case. Do you have signs of significant seepage at...
Yup, assuming no error codes and those are your heights at the N setting, the FR and FL sensor are probably reading 1-2" low. Adjust them to get back within ¼" or so of spec then tweak the TBs first to get the left-right leveled and then the pressures correct.
Point taken. Section A is really all about just measuring, so the order doesn’t really matter too much. I do mention in A4 that you shouldn’t do anything about too few graduations from L to H until you’ve also completed parts A, B and C. Some find that fixing pressures improves their...
Never too early. Will toss some of that info in. My plan is at a tough crossroads between being comprehensive and succinct, but I think it's worth adding.
If you have definite info, that would be great to know. Everything I have read says some need to remove it, others don't. Can't pick up on...
AHC Mods:
Rear pressure adjustments in order of magnitude:
- Adding/removing weight over rear axle: ~1.0MPa/210lbs
- Rear sensor lift 1": +0.6MPa
- New OEM AHC springs (95 lb/in): -0-0.3MPa depending on how worn the current springs are
- 30mm spring spacers: -0.3-0.6MPa reduction
- King KTRS-79...
