You should probably start a new thread in the 80's section since this is a spec only thread.
With that said, have you considered a spacer for the rear to eliminate the stinkbug issue?
Please don't answer here. Let's keep it clean.
What would you recommend instead?
I see Dobinson's 4-5" lift shocks are listed at 15.35" compressed to 26.37" extended (on par with OME L shocks). GS45-912
And for 6" lift they are 17" compressed to 28.7" extended. GS59-685.
Awesome Gary,
So about 6" added to the free height go the springs should dictate the length of the shocks then.
I always thought Dobinsons 3" flexi would pair well with OME L shocks, which now fits your theory.
Front 3" flexi (C59-612V) (21.26") along with OME L 60070L (26.3" ext)
Rear 3"...
Gary,
Looking at the Dobinson 2" Flexi specs, something is not what I would expect.
I know it is not your fault, you copied the info provided to you.
C59-223V seem to be almost on par with OME stock height coils. They seem to be very short for a 2" flexi coil. A free height of 455/445mm or...
HD 4600 shocks. Provide a stiff ride, pleasant on pavement (less body roll), not particularly excellent off road for a soft ride especially when paired with the stiffer OME stock height dual rate springs.
They do allow for a minor lift (about 1" - 1.25")
measurements ..... extended/compressed...
So is it a bad idea to use the entire up travel and have it limited be the shocks? (given the tires don't rub)
I've seen some Land Rovers with a huge suspension droop to the point where the coils were maybe 1/5ft to 1ft from the axle. They might not even use shocks in that case.
Not sure if...
I'm still not clear on the bump stop idea.
If one is looking for increased flex from any given suspension setup, why would you limit that travel with a bump stop?
