    Intermittent short - ? fix

looks like there is a OBDII just above the fuse panel. Daughter just returned from long bumpy ride around neighborhood - prob 45 min and 15 mi and no problem. I am going to leave the 5A jumper for now and give it a few days. She is out of school and around us plus AAA if problem returns.

    Intermittent short - ? fix

Daughter is out now doing a test run. I will check to see if there is OBD-II port next to fuse box. Any thoughts about the brown wire?

    Intermittent short - ? fix

With help from this site, I have identified a intermittent short that caused FL-AM2 to burn out on my 95. As suggested here I inspected the wiring near the EGR (what a pain) and when I wiggled the wire bundle I was able to reproduce the short. I have removed the heat shielding tape and...

Fusible Link - not final fix

Thanks for the input - sorry for the late response. I will be back at it today. blkprj80 - yes the CEL does light with a good connection, however when starting (it will now start) it will blow FL AM2 (or a fused bypass). Sorry about the confusion - when I first got the "no start, no CEL" I...

Fusible Link - not final fix

The only wires I could find going to dizzy was 4 wire connector W R G L. all showed continuity - W R G all the same resistance L (blue) was lower but looking at EWD it looks to have diff routing. Pulled the EFI relay and checked where it plugs in and found 1 is ground and is good. No...

    Question about pure gas

If you know any boaters - ask them why they are willing to pay that much extra - the reason is that it is worth it. It is less of an issue with most cars and trucks because of tank size and driving frequency but ethanol has become the scourge of the boating industry. With large tanks and...

Fusible Link - not final fix

My original thread: Fusible Link, no start advice I was able to track down a bad/fried FL. I was unable to find any other problem(s) so I installed a new FL and started right up. Daughter drove about 1 mile and same problem, fried FL-AM2 Condensed version: 1995 with 275,000. Worked well...

    Fusible Link, no start advice

Problem solved - I hope rechecked resistance on coil and looked OK. tried to start with 10A jumper in place of FL and started without problem so: either just old worn out FL or I have a intermittent problem. Guess we will find out

    Fusible Link, no start advice

Revisiting thread - I have all day to hopefully get her done. Tested Ignition coil resistance and think I found my problem. Primary coil showing 0.0 and secondary showing 6.36 (1/2 of spec). Looks like a short in the coil. My thoughts: short in coil caused FL-AM2 to burn out which in turn...

    Fusible Link, no start advice

so far: disconnected FL - no continuity from harness side of FL-AM2 to ground (so no short, right?) removed 7.5 amp ignition fuse at inside fusebox and jumped FL AM2 with low amp fuse - which would blow with key in on position. This makes me believe less likely a short and possible coil or...

    Fusible Link, no start advice

LFD - i tried that and jumping is apparently not recommended - the jumper wire started smoking so I stopped George - will do. Just installed new FL and turned key to on for a sec and now do have CEL but even in that short of a time (less than 1 second) wire was warm.

No CEL means no start. Check or replace EFI relay (similar one located under drivers kick plate or local parts store for about $13). Check the FL again - very common. Check for 12v at B+ on OBD. If 12v at B+ could be ECM but that is rare
