My first thought: check the CV boots for cracks - it sounds like CV boots and joints need some TLC/replacement, but without an inspection I'm just speculating.
Sale finallized.
Out of state buyer flew in last night and drove off with the FJ60 this morning.
Thank you to all who showed interest, the first PM I received was from the person who ended up with the vehicle.

Real old thread, but thought I'd add some commentary in the event someone else needs this info. According to Toyota Customer Assistance (800-331-4331), my FJ 60 had the fuel tank recall done by the original owner (I'm 2nd owner) on Mar 30, 1992 at West Side Toyota.

Old thread, but great thread, I went to put a new battery in my 86 `60 and found the OEM tray a pile of powdered rust, so a quick search brought me to this thread and I ordered a SS tray today.
Thanks for the link!

With what the market has been recently that FJ62 looks like a $12K+ rig if it is solid mechanically and isn't toast otherwise.
Research recent sales on bringatrailer.com for where my opinion is based on but location plays a very...

Doh, the throttle is all linkages and no cable. I diagnosed the problem with the throttle linkages today to be at the carburetor (every linkage rod and rotating point is greased and moving correctly until where rod p/n 78103...
Today, I pulled the old gal (1986 FJ60) out of winter storage (since spring has finally arrived here) and she started right up after a couple of ounces of gas were poured down the carburetor - both the choke cable and the throttle cable seemed to have seized over the winter storage months - I...

What does a virtually rust free 1986 FJ60 with all of the OEM emissions equipment (working), ~196K miles and OME steering stabilizer, OME heavy...
Sliced brisket, pulled pork, pre-made chili, curry, dal, rice, beans, cubed cooked potatoes, brats-n-kraut, etc... vacuum seal individual ingredients in single-serving portions (and frozen in flat packs). I use the 4mm thick bags and have yet to have one rupture, but double bagging is good...
