Hey Dan, I know this is frustrating news but sounds like you have some options. If none work out let me know. I have a 2F crank sitting in my storage cabin. Glad to get my machine shop to take a closer look at it should you need me to.
You’re in good hands with Daniel behind the wrench on this rig. Live just down the road and been to his shop many times. What a story and definitely understand the sentimental value. I checked out your truck when I was there last month. Look forward to following your progress.
I’m guessing @landsnoozer is never going to make a build thread so I’ll continue to park the updates here :). Shot the roof/hood today. Lots of dust bunnies and an ok spray job. 4 coats of clear so we have room to address them after the paint cures. I am pleased with our body work. Lots of hail...
I’m curious what your plans are for the headliner. You mentioned leaving it open and going with only insulation. Since the side quarter glass and windshield are back in, those would have to come out to put a factory style liner back in. Your build is awesome and I’ve enjoyed following along.
Very cool truck. Please tell me they did not screw the gauge cluster directly into the dash :). A clean crack free dash would be close to 20% of the value of this truck.
Hey Jack, it was a Toyota windshield but definitely not the original glass. Was too clean for the miles and had zero glue so it came out fairly easy. Unfortunately had a small crack that took on a mind of its own when we pulled it.
Just read through your build thread. Inspirational is all I can say. Great respect for your commitment to this old girl. Makes me think of the one comment I heard years ago and resonates to this day…” when I’m working on my cruiser it’s actually working on me”.
Self leveling seam sealer is down. Got very lucky…the second tube pack had issues. One side would not dispense and we got about 6-8” down the gutter before we realized this. Removed the cartridge and found a jam in the tip due to material being dried (sorta like a huge booger). Mason used a...
I hit it in where the original tack welds were. I did learn a valuable lesson using the 4.5” grinder…I burned through the lip where the gutter does a 90 degree bend. About 6” of it separated. That was a mess tacking it back on as I kept burning though (used 23g wire turned way down). That...
Hey Allen, we are definitely going to give it a try. We removed the old one as well as the headliner. I’ve done a few 60 headliners and this one with the high roof/sunroof was a major PITA. Mason has taken the glass from your truck and his complete unit back to Austin to see if he can find a...
So I’ve been lame with general updates. Started a new business (Senior in-home care) late 2023 so been very busy during the day. Yep…the goal is I’ll have enough experienced caregivers that I won’t have to depend on either of my two boys to change my diapers at some point in the distant future...
Doing this exact job this weekend on a friend’s HJ61 @landsnoozer
One thing I learned several gutter jobs ago was to open up the gutter channel on the a-pillars. I use a few old wood chisels and slowly work my way up and down the channel. That way I have good access for cleaning, treating...
