I put in a rear bench seat to make it safe for little kids in car seats, so I don't worry about the rear step. But I think this setup allows for a foothold. Don't be wearing your bellbottom jeans, though.
I recently did my driver's seat bottom for my 1978 FJ40. Make sure you have wire run through the border of the seat cover. If you don't have OEM wire then use some household wiring - strip some 14-2 or such and harvest a length of wire from that. Start by securing the top surface through the...
I checked my spare parts boxes but I don't have it. You can get a pair for $150 from Cruiseryard.

I am redoing my front doors' weather seals after 10 years. The first time I tried doing a custom trim with a scalpel to address the tightness. It was a total fail as far as keeping the cold out, but the doors closed easier lol. Now everything is over compressed and 10 years old so I am going...
There aren't many of these things left. I loved my 1977 FJ55 and it eventually rusted away living in the rustbelt and driving it on the beach at Assateague Island in Maryland. Great memories. I say go for it if your pockets are deep enough to throw another $15,000 - 20,000 towards the project.
It is a Kaymar FJ40 model roof rack w/mesh. I bought it through Man-a-Fre in 08/2004. The mounting rail is contoured to fit the FJ40 roof shape. It was about $500 plus a little over $200 shipping at 110 lbs.
When I got the vinyl wrap a couple years ago, I had them wrap the bezel and lid also. That was ok at first, but I always felt it didn't look quite right. So this fall when I finished restoring my hardtop rain gutter and put the soft top away, I removed the green wrap from the lid and bezel...
A quick temporary fix for the spare tire rattle is putting a wheel barrow inner tube between the tire carrier and door. My rattle mysteriously went away when I mounted a 10.5 x 33 Dick Cepak tire on it instead of the 9.5 x 33 B.F. Goodrich (which aged out).
I'm getting ready to put my hardtop back on with new seals. I heard talc powder helps so I bought some on Amazon. I guess baby powder is no longer talc but cornstarch.
My '78 hardtop to Aqualu tub, windshield, and cowl went pretty well. Jim C and I cut the guideposts down to about 4-5 inches. The top took a little time to settle - didn't know about the baby powder trick. The only gap I remember was right over the guidepost holes. I cut a gasket out of a...
