That's great to hear. When I redid mine I just overlaid new foam, reinforced with felt, over the degraded spots. I think new seat foam will be the next step.
Agreed, there is an operating space where a snorkel (or perhaps more specifically the pre-filter) is a benefit. Toyota offers their bird's nest snorkel for the same reasons that Oshkosh and the others put big pre-filter "snorkels" on military vehicles.
