Years ago I grabbed a front locking axle and the rear locking diff with intention of doing the swap. Bought all the switches, harnesses, dash lights etc, and found a really detailed write up on here by Overland?? possibly. Now I'm ready to do the swap and of course after 3 moves have lost the...
Unfortunately I took out the front end of my lc 8 months ago. The insurance company gave me what I paid for it 60,000 miles ago so I decided I would fix it at my leisure and build a trail truck. After finding all the pieces and spending a few grand with Dan (thanks Dan....what a great discount)...
If that's the same one...I watched that car on race-dezert's classifieds...there were a few 5-1600's listed at that time but that was a decent deal.
this it?
From the use you describe it sounds like you need a wagon more than anyone else on here...lol
of course your response had nothing to do with his question and was only used as an opportunity to try and humiliate him and show the athletic prowess of your group going to the mall:clap:
And now...
I have read the info somewhere before but cannot seem to come across it now that I need it. I've searched through the faq's but maybe I'm overlooking it.
I smashed up the front end of my 96 lc and am out hunting parts....besides the grill, are the body panels up front (fender, hood, parking...
hope it wasn't this expensive..

I bought them from jardco...(edit:was told)they came of an 80 that had been rolled in Japan( edit:was corrected by cdan that they were not). Did not come with panhard...only the steering link which is nicely bowed.
from slee's site......probably why I'm put off by that route..lol
"If complete axle housings with third members are not available, then you can retrofit the third member. This ranks high on the banana scale, and should not be attempted without the right tools and knowledge. "
I'm looking for suggestions on how to do just that. I knew the rear was bent, getting the ds axle out proved that. The steering link is bent on the front and I was hoping that give saved the front. If the panhard is solid I can see it twisting the bracket when it rolled.
The diff into the open...
What would be the recommended method of repair for this bracket on the front of the axle housing? Can it be returned to shape and re welded (factory penetration looks about like mine..lol) or should I get a donor bracket?
I bought a recaro for my Z06, the stock seat is lousy and I wanted to do some autocrossing. They make a fine seat for racing but beyond that I'd look elsewhere. They are not a seat for a dd lc imo. No landcruiser Owner I know will want to fight with the side bolster on their seats just to get...
My 60lb best friend is 13, she can still get into and out of the truck by herself but it's not very graceful anymore even though she still wants to try everytime...sometimes it's kind of scary..lol. I have the 2nd and 3rd row seats removed so she has the back of the truck. I've been wanting to...
I don't intend to mess with the bent rear housing. I'll use the parts and grind the cut out into my open unit.
I would like to find a way to verify that the front housing is straight so that I may use it for a direct swap. Also wondering, if the front IS straight, about that bent bracket and...
Locker conversion / axle housing bent question?
I recently purchased a pair of locking axles for my 1996 lc. I had been looking for complete axles as well as just actuators and parts seperately for awhile but never found anything that was reasonable and close by. Car-parts is full of listings...
I've got the axles coming to do the locker retrofit on my 96 and I have two questions (for now..lol).
The first is what size and type jackstands are adequate for the fzj80? I read a few threads where some used 3 1/2 ton and some said 12.
The second is how much will the axle housing only...
