    Release bearing riding pressure plate

Sorry, I completely forgot to do this. I had been waiting on it and the second I got it I slapped it in. I will say that it seems to be working. The adjustment is still pretty touchy but doable. Only mistake I made at this point is my Clutch fork looks more like 2 degrees instead of 4. To...

    Release bearing riding pressure plate

Upside to using an adjustable GM pivot is in the future I shouldn't need to remove the adapter to swap the pivot. I am also trying to get some good truck Karma by actually cleaning and repainting parts this time. I have a bad habit of not caring about greasy covered parts and that contributed to...

    Release bearing riding pressure plate

It seems I do not have an AA adapter. I have an Old Downey. At least some good news. I was able to remove the adapter and pivot.

    Release bearing riding pressure plate

OK I think I see what you are talking about. I did not clearance the adapter for that part. Must have been done in the past. I circled in red what I think you are talking about just to 100%. Pic 1 - shows what was machined flat. Pic 2 - shows the new retainers relationship to bell housing and...

    Release bearing riding pressure plate

Yeah I completely understand. In my case it was definitely a contributing factor. Basically I think you can get away with a chevy clutch as long as your pedal is set up perfect, pivot ball has no slop, TO bearing has no slop on the clutch fork, Slave adjusted perfect. Everything going back on...

    Release bearing riding pressure plate

pic 1 - where it actually does rub and explains why it was a pain to suck the tranny all the way in. Should be a quick fix with the grinder. pic 2 - Current clutch arm labeled 376(5?)374G.M.2868. Getting replaced with GM# 3765372 pic 3 - Actually does not look too worn in here pic 4 - Is a...

    Release bearing riding pressure plate

So I am now able to drop the transmission from FJ55 complete and ready to drive to on the floor in 2 hours. Pic 1 - better pic of adapter plate that shows dowels. I am assuming this is not the very first model but old as dirt still. Pic 2 - shows my current front bearing retainer. Pic 3 -...

    Release bearing riding pressure plate

This is the older style 4 speed? H55F? bearing retainer that was on this truck for 25 years. Where was it machined so I can make sure it is is not hitting on the new one? Since the new one bolted all the way up and was working I am probably ok. Edit. The current retainer I have is the one...

    Release bearing riding pressure plate

Do you have a picture of what was machined on the old 4 speed front bearing retainer? That bearing retainer appears to have been transferred to a H55f at some point. I have a new H55f with the new style bearing retainer and did not use the old one but I still have it.nI did have my new H55f...

    Release bearing riding pressure plate

Well I guess I am pulling all this now. God damn clutch release arm decided to come off the pivot which caused the slave to over extend and dump all the fluid. I didn't notice the clutch arm until I fixed it on the side of the road...twice... including getting a new slave. Chevota clutch...

    Chevy/Toyota Clutch

You also have to take any slop in the pivot ball and at the release bearing collar interaction with the clutch fork. That will eat up some movement and some of your math depending on how worn the pivot ball is. I am going through this right now.

    Release bearing riding pressure plate

The adapter is at least pre 1982. It may even Be from the 70s. I did try a stiffer return spring. Also I can adjust the rod to the point that it doesn't touch but then it won't disengage the clutch. My understanding is that for the chevy clutch to work there can be zero slop in all the parts...

    Release bearing riding pressure plate

There is some grease on the bearing retainer shaft. with the slave off it pivots easy with and without the extra spring I added. That black spring just pulls it tight to the pivot. I can get in there and add grease but I don't see that solving the current problems. Edit. You are right though...

    Release bearing riding pressure plate

Pics added a few posts back. Can someone confirm this is an older AA adapter to chevy? And can some one confirm my clutch fork angle is wrong and should be angled more towards the pressure plate with a shorter release bearing?
