Greeting from the FJ40 side, folks! My first post here in the Tundra section as most of my wrenching has been on my FJ40. However, I also have a 2004 Tundra which I've been trying NOT to wrench on but necessity calls. This is a New England truck and tons of rust as you will see. It turns out...
NOt sure why dipping your exhaust in water would be so harmful (unless salt water). The outside certainly gets wet every time it rains and if the pipe is submerged with engine running I assume not much water is making it too far up against the pressure of the exiting exhaust. Of course, turning...
That's a deep stream. I suppose if someone runs in deep water a lot they have to account for that breather hole and run an air passageway to higher ground, no?
Ok....most of that is mechanical wear on metal parts over time. Not something that is finicky, in my humble opinion. Not that it isn't paramount to have it correct just that hosing down the engine bay is going to effect it in any way. I'm not sure how the advance weight pivots work or where/what...
Does anyone have an idea why plugs 2 and 6 would be the ones effected by that loose wire? Does the placement have something to do with it? I will say that I also sprayed WD-40 in the cap and cleaned the battery terminal first but the car still wouldn't start. Only after I tightened that wire.
Thanks for that! I'm wondering if perhaps there used to be a plastic peg or stopper on the inside of mine that fit into the notch in the screw head. I don't remember ever having this problem in the past until at a certain point I DID have the issue., that the screw kept spinning in place...
Sure, I'll send a pic soon. I've had the truck since 1985. It was the first car I ever bought. I was 16. One of the LC vendors called Mallory was pushing Delco dist. and Delco starters modified to fit in cruisers. They were sold as upgrades to the original and I was all keen on horsepower and a...
Well good news, I have solved the problem. It turns out to be the connection of the high tension wire between the coil and dizzy on the outside of the dizzy and on the inside where the points and condenser connect. See the pic with the yellow circle. This was actually the reason I had no spark...
Thanks all. The truck was running just fine after washing. I turned it on and let it idle for 10/15 minutes to help dry out the engine bay. Since no spark is reaching the end of the lead on those two cylinders it seems pointless to worry about gap/carb/timing/valves.... And the engine runs on...
Thank you. I'll try the WD-40, 1MAC. Cap seems quite dry inside, however. Dizzy, dirty battery terminals could cause this? Grounding strap...where would you suggest running this, from where the neg lead of the battery is on the frame to, say, the hoisting hook? ? I'm not sure I have one, but I...
I didn't see any reason to pull the plug as the spark is not arriving to the end of the lead...when grounding the lead to the engine block. I have not turned the engine over while watching the rotor. Certainly, the points are opening on the other firing cylinders, correct? If there is a flat...
Well I guess in that first pic indeed they were wrong. Hmm, in the new pic, however, they are correct and still we aren't getting spark in 2 and 6. Your help is much appreciated!
Just checked again.....firing order appears to be correct to me. Did you get that from the pic? Please see the new pic. #1 I have circled in yellow. Is that correct? I also just swapped out one of the wires and can confirm that still no spark through the new wire....in position 2. What would a...
You mean bad plug wire? I did switch out the wire with one that was firing and still now spark. Perhaps I got confused. Seems strange two wires would go bad at once? I started looking at the firing order and I'm completely confused now. As mentioned, the car was running great when I put it away...
Just got back to the truck after a two year hiatus. I got it running after a loose distributer wire and actually it was running pretty smooth. I drove it up and down the lane a couple time to get things cooking and then parked it in the drive and proceeded to hose down the entire inside and...
