Ill probably get banned for saying this... but a lot of people on this board probably over do some of the PM'ing. But its because they love their vehicle. Reliable to me is my 80 I bought with 104k miles and now has 170k, which has never left me on the side of the road, and I do pretty basic...
Part of it is personal preference. I have 17X10" wheels with 35x12.50-17 BFG KM2's which I think looks better than the narrower, smaller wheels and it gives me a little more overall width. I have no rubbing issues with OME Js and front spacers
Im in the middle of rebuilding my front axle and I wanted to pull the third to inspect the gears etc. It comes out about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch and thats it. it feels like something behind the locker mechanism (upper passenger side) is holding it in place. Any tips or help would be appreciated.
96 I bought two years ago this month with 104K just rolled over 156K this week. I drive between SLC and Las Vegas a lot! I trust it enought to loan it to my mother, that says a lot.
I had Menlove work on my 91 when the relays started popping. They said the diognostic would cost $80 then would go towards the price of the repair. Well the repair was a new alternator and cost me over $700. that was about 5 years ago and I was young and stupid but I would never go back there...
Looks like fun Dusty. I moved to St George about a year ago and have not even scratched the surface of all the spots. Looks like you were out by Sand Hollow? I dont see many 80s around here so if you get back this way for wheeling and want company give me a yell. Joe
Airconditioning systems use either an orfis tube or an expansion valve to control refrigerant movement. I dont know which one the 80 uses but when they go then the compressor wont compress enough coolant and then you get no cold. If the system works when at higher RPMs but not at low this could...
I just relocated to the desert and the 100+ was roasting me. The AC was trying but all that glass was more than it could keep cool. I just had the windows tinted last week with best metalic tint I could find (metalic tint blocks out heat) and now the AC is fine.
If it has under 100k you can go to a dealer and get a 3/36000 warranty for about $1500. My brother got this warranty on his about 2 years ago and has had about $4000 in work done covered by the warranty
A stock vehicle is going to get better than one which has been lifted with tires etc. Mine is stock and I average between 14 and 16. I drive a 300 mile trip each way every other weekend and last week I got 19.1 with the cruise set at 65. Most people are not willing to drive like that. Ive read...
When I suggested the lift thread I was thinking along the lines of how to get a certain lift from commonly available parts and keep the front at least close to correct settings. I think if someone wrote it right as just generals then it would save a lot of people endless hours of reading. As I...
I think a good FAQ thread would be about lifts. Im pretty new here and it took me a lot of searches and reading to figure out what was what. Depending on what parts you mix and match you can have anywhere from 1.5" to 7.5" . It would be nice for someone to write up a list of how to get what...
I was scared ass hell when I did my first one. but I had no money so it was necessary for me. Its really not hard. Just get the book diagrams etc and take your time. If you dont want to give it a try then Ill just say that is what two dealers quoted me so it seems about right.
I had a 91 and other than the lack of power I loved it, thats why I got my 96. The 96 is nicer for sure but if you dont need the lockers, leather, power for towing, or airbags, and money is an issue I say just go with the earlier one for around half the money.
Good tires. I had them on my last 80 and replaced them with Xterains, but they are going back on my new 80. I think some people dont like them because they are not the coolest looking tire out there but they last forever and are good off road.
Im sure someone will jump me for asking but ive spent 2 hours reading in the search section and didnt find my answer.
People who have put on the slee 6",,,HOW IS THE RIDE??? Ive searched everything else I need to know about lifts and am almost at a decision. Thats all I want to know cause im...
Slee's 4" is on the new site http://newsite.sleeoffroad.com but wouldnt it be more cost effective to either use Slee's 4" springs and his castor correction plates or OME springs and Man a fre's spring spacers w/ slee's castor correction plates?? And I agree, go easy on us new guys if we ask...
