Decided to run an extension from the ashtray light to the shifter backlight socket. Sacrificed the ashtray light but now have a shifter backlight. Not a perfect solution but it works for me as there are no smokers in my vehicle needing a lit ashtray! Thanks all for your suggestions!
Yes, I checked the dimmer - it works, but does not affect the shifter back light. All dash panel lights work as well. I’m wondering if the #2721 bulb I tried to use is not compatible with the connector. The factory bulb is a 9098111014 (same bulb for glove box and ash tray). I’m looking...
By O/D switch, do you mean the button on the side of the shifter? If so, yes, when pressed in, the indicator light comes on the dash. And the transmission stays out of overdrive. Unfortunately I am not great at troubleshooting electrical problems and don’t read EWD very well at all.
The shifter backlight (at the gear shifter, not on the dash) no longer cones on when the ignition is on and the headlights are turned on. Checked bulb - it’s good. Checked for power with multimeter - no power. Could not see any broken wires etc. under the shifter cover. Wiggling wiring...
I did the same thing - overheating resistor for the 24V LED lamps for my 1993 HZJ77. I went to this 500 W resistor - no more problems whatsoever: Gold Tone 50 Ohm 500W Resistance 5% Aluminum Shell Wire Wound Resistor...
Its looking like I can't make the GSMTR this year due to a work conflict. Which puts the 2nd Annual Southeast 70 Series Meet and Greet and Trailride in the running for a tour in my '77. Too bad its also on the same weekend as my Duck Season opening. More thinking required!:hmm:
Jordan - that's a bummer you have all these problems with overheating. Hopefully you have fixed the problem and you can start feeling the love again some day. Presumably you checked and the water pump wasn't failing. What about blocked passages in the water jacket? Is there a way to test...
Interesting list of "to do's": is the back up camera 24v? Where and what type of display (video screen in rearview mirror)? I have not found a 24V backup camera system despite much searching. Where are you mounting g the camera? And what type of seat covers? Where did you source them...
Akella and Radd Cruisers are 2 excellent sources for rad hoses for your 77. Both are on Mud and are easy to find and contact. They should be able to get your hoses quickly and Radd may even have them in stock.
Just throwing in my 2 cents worth based on my experience on updating lighting for my '77. I replaced the crap incandescent 24v bulbs in my dome lights and drivers light (beside the sunroof switch) and used these very inexpensive lights I found on eBay - no issues whatsoever after 2 years of...
Sounds very interesting! I was at GSMTR 2015 and saw the posts on Southeast 70 Series Meet in Cullman. While GSMTR was super fun, the 70 Series event looked like a great event as well. I was thinking of going to GSMTR 2016 - the 25th Anniversary Event. But now my 70 beckons me... So many...
I know this BJ42! I came within a whisker of buying it, but ended up going with a JDM 1993 HZJ77 instead. The owner in Toronto may have been original owner? Or second owner? (can't recall this detail). The Toronto owner literally had never taken it off road. Specifically, he never took it...
I absolutely don't want to hijack this thread, but this is what I used on my "77. And I didn't have any alternative sources when I bought mine. These have a nice warm yellow colour (not cool blue) and area really bright plus emit virtually no heat. No problem reading a map at night now...
Just saw this thread - very nice condition! You will love it. Some advice - when you turbo it, be sure to watch your EGT's (as in: be sure they don't get too high). You may need adjust your fueling carefully for best balance of power, EGT and smoke, especially if climbing long steep hills...
