Thanks for all the advice. In conclusion, looks like I'll be going with 6-points sockets only... not really planning on working on the engine straight off
Ok, I'm a total noob when it comes to mechanical work on a vehicle but I'm planning to correct this. First off, I need to get some tools... thinking Facom or Stahlwille. But damn these things are expensive, so I'm kinda wondering if 12-point sockets are a must (given 5 or 10 degree teeth in the...
Sure, most 80s sold in continental Europe (LHD) were diesels. They are highly saught after and consequently are on the expensive side. A typical offer would go something like: '95 HDJ 80 GX 200K km - EUR 20,000. Now 20,000 euros comes out to about $25,000, and for a rig with 125K miles on it...
Spike - I meant the ratio of the tire width to the rim width... Which in the case of a 255 and a 7 inch rim comes out to 1.43
Cruiserman - which jeep flares? OEM? I must say the prospect of drilling holes doesn't excite me that much...
Grench - the link works fine and the tire looks good! tnx!
Wow, just gone through that skinny vs wide thread... Quite enlightening, if a bit academic. Problem is all 255s seem to be in M/T... Another question: are 255s too wide for 16x7 ? 25.5 cm / (7*2.54) = 1.43 - is there some sort of rule as to the ratio?
Gumby and MadBaggins - thanks!:bounce:
Well, from the pics it looks like they do stick out a little :crybaby: - I'd say about 1 - 1.5 cm or about half an inch. It doesn't look too noticeable though, perhaps due to the size of the vehicle... BTW, I'm in Switzerland, where up until the mid...
Mine's a '97 HDJ 80 STD (the poverty pack:crybaby: ). From factory it has 16x7 steelies, 215/80/16 (29.5 x 8.5) and no flares.
Now I really dig the look of 285/75/16s on 16x8 alloys that you guys run (the factory setup on mine just looks weird:eek: ) but the laws here are pretty strict in...
Thanks for your replies :) Well, the conclusion seems to be that I need to start ordering the bits and pieces and read up on the FSM. I have never worked on the engine before - is there anything in particular I should be on a lookout for?
From what I read here and on 80sCool, faulty big end bearings are definitely a problem on 1HD-T (12 valve) engines. The question: does the 1HD-FT (24 valve) have the same problem??? Mine's a late 97 HDJ 80.
Some seem to think that only the early 1HD-T s were concerned, some say all 1HD-T s...
