Just ordered the u-bolt flip kit from @lcwizard. Going to try to hammer it out a bit once I get the kit but a good excuse to upgrade.
Thanks all for the help - will keep ya posted!
I was thinking the BFH might sort it out too. Pissed I didn't notice it when the axle was out.
When the axle was out I hit it with a commercial hot pressure washer...it was much grimier. I debated painting it but decided against it. If I was going to go the extra effort of painting it I...
Just installed these FJ62 axles under my FJ60 to reverse a SOA lift, was tightening the u-bolts and noticed that the PS u-bolt perch is facked. I was thinking of running a bead to help brace everything or maybe just install a u-bolt flip kit? How screwed am I here?
Just got back from turkey hunting and am ready to get back onto the 60. While the SOA to SUA conversion was a big step, I had my friend get off all the old oxidation and this was the conversion I was most excited about. She cleaned up great!
I've got to torque all the suspension components...
Here's the gauge that I can vouch for

On where to install read this post...
At this point you should install a mechanical temp gauge and using that to determine it’s true temp.
These electronic gauges are not as accurate. I’d recommend an Autometer. On my 87 pickup it was so accurate that I could see when the thermostat opened at 190° as the temp would drop back down...
My knuckle journey continued into the weekend and I was able to get the rotors and new lugs installed on Saturday morning, with the last remaining items being installing the tie rods & plumbing the brake lines. I decided to wait on that as my donor axle was missing a hardline that I would need...
I'm hoping to swap my SOA axles for some factory SUA ones out of a FJ62 that I pulled last weekend. I don't know why but for whatever reason I'm overthinking the process and where best to support the frame during the swap.
Right now I see two options:
Option A:
Install new OME leaf springs...
I've done plenty of front end work over the course of my life but never had the luxury of rebuilding the knuckles on an old Toyota. What an experience it is.
Isn't there supposed to be a s*** ton of grease in here??
It was nice being able to look up and remind myself why I'm covered head...
You should have cold air at idle regardless, kicking up the rpms will cause the compressor to spin faster and it gets colder.
Start with the basic stuff, make sure the belt isn't slipping on the compressor. If you can get a set of gauges on it watch the high side and make sure the expansion...
Hmm. Maybe a faulty expansion valve that's not opening up all the way? How cold is the line from the compressor to the evaporator? The one on this truck was freezing (as it should be)
Did you clean out all of the lines prior to installing?
Recently bought an FJ60 and he also threw in a 2H diesel that he was planning to swap into it. It came out of a Toyota forklift and has about 1800 hours on it.
I have no use for it, what you see is what you get. $1,000 OBO.
PM if interested.
Are you using a Denso compressor? Both of the systems I've done have been really cold, much colder than any modern A/C system.
Faulty A/C amplifier causing the compressor to kick on less frequently and for shorter periods of time?
