BUY THE TIE ROD END KIT! Worth money given the ones on your rig have served 53 years if they are factory. In separating the joints for the boots you will likely have some serious persuading to do which could damage the joint any way. So, start with the penetrating oil now, order them up and when...
I have Miata seats in my 69. Had to fab up a mounting solution. Let me know if you need any input for that, though I believe our base mounts will not be the same. Still, willing to help with photos, measurements or anything of that nature. Have a few good pics on IG @1_fj40_story
Yikes! I have have been researching as well and it seems the magnetic cup is not serviceable. I took my 40 for a spin 2 days ago, the noise was unbearable and then AHH silence. UH OH! The needle is dangling straight down. Luck would have it, I found and scooped up a '77 instrument...
Curious about good solutions for this as well. I used a backing plate eliminator and have no place to mount a union. Seems like someone out there has got to be making a flexible brake line that would just by-pass the union and go straight into the caliper, JT Outfitters may have one but they are...
Will a brake line (axle to caliper) from a 91-92 FJ-80 work on 79-85 FJ and mini-truck calipers? I'm curious about the banjo bolt fitting and wether this is a good solution when using a backing plate eliminator.
I am running 35x12.50 R17 bfg m/t's with skyjacker 4" and factory length OME shackles the 17"wheels have factory backspacing. I do have cut rear quarters so definitely do not experience rubbing there. I have wheel well rub on the rears and I plan on getting a narrower tire next time to reduce...
I get the impression he’s got a lot of skills. Was going to go to him for the pitman arm but I’m scared of the cost of getting all these custom parts. I’ll at least give him a call and explore options. Maybe it’ll be worth it.
I've been trying to upgrade my 76-78 axle with six stud knuckles and minitruck/ 79-85 parts. I've hit the wall and am about to surrender completely to what feels like a project of foolishness. The wall I've hit is steering.
Whats working; six sud knuckles mounted (and centered thanks to a...
What a great project! Just a tip here. Make sure you have an LED capable flasher and hazard relay for those rear lights. Without the LED relay your signaling system is going to do some funky stuff.
Pretty sure this was a Baja bailout rig. You know, when your rig breaks down and you're wondering to the next town you stumble upon this sweet beast. As long you have a wire nut in your pocket you can make it to the next town. My imagination is running wild with that winch controlled table...
