I definitely jumped the gun. When I checked on the u-joints, I noticed that the 4 bolts securing the drive shaft were loose! :doh:
I tightened them, and all is good.
I am sure that I shortened the life of the third member a bit...but that rebuild was on the list anyway...
When driving my 1989 FJ62 this weekend, at around 60 MPH it starts to vibrate fairly bad. It sounded like the noise was coming from the transfer case (could have been transmission I guess?) When I slow down below 60, it rides normal.
I know that the transfer case is due a rebuild soon, but...
I used the vise grips, but I also had to heat the check valve with a small propane torch until I was able to remove mine and put the new on one.

I have a fender - i think it came off an 85 or 86 FJ60.

It is recommended to remove the drive shaft.
