This is a good case to add some bumpers. I recently got hit from behind and the damage was minor compared to the guy who totaled his explorer. You will like the added benefit of having your spare out from under your rig.
I may be leaving the country for a year or more and was wondering about long term storage. If I park it for a year what could be expected to be toast when I start it up again. I thought of selling but its the best ride I have ever had and hate the idea of parting with it.
Please post up thoughts
Had some guy crash in the back of me doing 45 to 50 Mph. I was stopped.
There was some damage to the tailgate due to the spare being pushed forward. No frame or other major damage. This could have been the end of the cruiser if not for the bumpers.
So anyone building bumpers keep the spare...
Seems I fixed the burning oil smell. It looks to have been the idler bearing? I could have sworn it was oil burning but it was the belts searing against a stuck idler.
Yes they are cool. The conversion of the 1993 cruiser is still $19k US dollars and that ia half price from just afew months ago at 120Kr per US dollar.
Maybe a group buy on the fenders?
Believe it or not
Ok, under the circumstances the best I got was 18.9 I kept checking the math but was repeated twice.
When I drove through the Yukon during the winter at about 20 below and average speed was about 55mph. The rig was loaded to the max.
I had just had a tune up and changed to...
Warped rotors
I would say rotor(s) are warped. Mine did not do it all the time but was very noticable when braking down hill. I ruined my last ones braking down a very step trail and the brakes were smoking hot and then hit a puddle= warp city
I have had the same problem. Go with quality...
Ok, I have found where the smell is coming from on mine. It is the y pipe from the manifold. I pulled off the road after a climb of about 2500 ft. The passengers noticed the smell right off.
I looked for oil leaks under the hood and found nothing. I then looked at the PS wheel well and saw...
PS side oil smell
There seem to be alot of ideas so far but nothing firm.
Not an expert by any means, but anyone who has owned or worked on cars for a while can kinda tell the type of smell.
Burning anti-freeze, brake fluid, engine oil, exuast, and tranny fluid and burning wires and...
Same smell
Glad I am not the only one. I have noticed this for a while. Some days its worse than others. I even put some dye in the oil and hit it with UV light. No signs of engine oil leaks. No bearing leaks.
My Pcv hose was craked and I replaced the hose and the valve ( glad I read the post...
Thanks for the info so far.
I have checked the fluid and had a flush about a year ago.
The slip is noticable on an incline and you can hear and feel that it is trying but is just not engaging 100%. I can stop/brake and off she goes. It just seems to be the initial backing up.
I am trying...
Need some help guys.
When I have to back up an incline, I have a hesitation and some slipping. I have heard a clunk noise before but now I get soem slipping. This mostly happens backing up an incline.
I have checked the u-joints and the the axle seems to have no play when turned by hand...
Blizzaks for me
I Have had Blizzaks on my rig for two years. Drove up to Alaska in Jan two years ago. Very good tire.
As with most tires if the snow builds up in the treads and can not be pushed out fast enough so some sliding takes place. JUST SLOW DOWN.
Works well on ice but all tires...
My 97 took all day until I decided to cram it down the hole and turn on the switch. If I would have known it would have taken 5 minutes.
I tried to take out the motor and it is a tight fit and the antanae input to the radio has zero play.
Good luck

I would go with a Lift first. I have a97 lexus and the springs are much softer and the 2.5 OME lift works great. Good on and off trails.
Second would be bumpers, ARB frothe front and for the back Get one with a tire swing out.

I took a trip to Newfoundland. One of the best driving trips. Take the ferry from the top of Nova Scotia, cruise to the top of Newfoundland and catch the ferry to Labrador and then back down through Quebec and then home. Lots of great People In Newfie Land.
