9/78 FJ40.
I should mention that I have a Mallotte fiberglass tub, and it's 17 years old. If I knew then what I know now, etc. Done before Aluminum tubs hit their stride. So, this may be as simple as a ground connection, but it's only a recent issue. No insurmountable electrical problems in 16+...
Getting set to replace original front disc rotors. Apologies if this has been asked but no thread titles seemed promising.
I'm concerned that I'm going to crack it open and be caught needing to replace parts I don't currently have. I'm looking for guidance on what I can expect will certainly...
In need of front disc rotors for my '78 FJ40, (35 years was a good long run).
After checking the usual online sources (ouch), I just got off the phone with the parts department of my local Toyota dealer in the hopes that I might at least save some dough on shipping.
Parts guy gave me the...
well, it finally happened, after 20+ years on the same chrome American Racing wagon wheel rims. I came out to the truck this morning and it was listing a bit more than usual...
Flat tire. Uggghhhh.
I'm pretty confident that the rims are just about toast. My spare stopped holding air a...
after the OEM head pipe was discontinued, I decided to move to the tuned port ceramic coated two-piece headers Man-a-Fre sells.
First pair and Y were installed 8 years ago by a shop in Medford along with a fluid heat riser.
The ball on the front header set rotted through a few months ago but...
been a while...
OEM gas sending unit on my 78 FJ40 has begun to operate intermittently. Full tank reads full. As soon as I use some gas, the gauge reads dead empty.
This suggests to me the wiring and gauge are operating correctly, and that the sending unit is faulty. All other gauges on...
For some back story, I wrote a long winded intro for this set on it's main page.

I've owned the truck since Feb 1982 and have watched it go from essentially brand new olive brown through the gradual slide toward the brink...
I'm replacing my rotting 10 y.o. OEM radiator with a Ron Davis Racing aluminum unit for a 2F FJ40. I bought it through a popular west coast TLC parts retailer and had it shipped east with the 4 rubber mounts and a drain plug as additional items not included with the radiator.
The rad showed...
yep, that's right. the nifty ceramic coated headers i put on last fall are covered with rust spots.
needless to say, i'm a bit disappointed.
anyone else having this happen?
i picked up a new Non-USA Aisin carb from $OR during their December sale and am curious to know if these things ship to spec or if i need to pre-set specs before i drop it in.
TIA
yep, super basic question. sorry.
what i'm wondering is, how do i know what the correct inflation for my 31 x 10.5 radials is for pavement / highway driving with the goal being optimal gas mileage.
to moderately complicate matters, i'm running a fiberglass tub which lightened the 4800lb...
OK, i've been searching high and low on the web looking for a source for the green waterproof electrical connectors that are part of the OEM wiring harness.
these style connectors MUST still be manufactured, as they are being fitted to new components, e.g. rear tail-light assemblies and idle...
i've rebuilt /repainted my charcoal canister, OCV, brackets, etc. and want to put it all back on-line after having dropped a new OEM gas tank in. (poly tank leaked vapors and was 4+ gallons smaller than stock. buBye)
i pulled it all a few years ago, and though i've been pouring over the '78...
for those of you that have desmogged your 2F that has an EGR port coming off your carb (like my '78), i found the perfect plugs.
Dorman/Motormite makes a gigantic line HELP! brand stuff you've likely seen at your local auto parts store in red packages.

i currently have a 15yo Sears 9v Tach/Dwell multimeter, but i'm not too confident about its accuracy. Been trolling the Snap-On site because i know they are quality tools looking at prices, and well, they're friggin expensive, and probably over-featured for my simple breaker point tuneups...
It was reccomended that i use 1/4" brass allen head pipe plugs to fill the air injection ports on my 2F.
i found them here at 58¢/
