Hey @RodrigzCrzr, here's a pic of the distributor wiring and inside of the dizzy. Pretty simple, red from petronix on coil positive and black on negative. The other wire on coil positive is from my ignition. The other wire on negative is from my tachometer on the Dakota digital dash (OEM setup...
The existing wiring harness was a rats nests, so bought and installed a new harness from SOR. I started as an EE in college, so wasn't too concerned about this part. In the end, just had to be careful and things worked out. My only issue was my initial location of the main fuse block. I had to...
Hire a body shop that knows what the hell they are doing to do the heavy lifting of fabrication and painting. I welded in new floor boards and replaced the bed tub panels, but I know when to stop and hire professionals when I've reached my limits
I started this project about 10 years ago back in 2013. I thought I might like restoring old cars in my retirement (I'm 53 now) and figured 10 years ago, I might want to give it a try. If things worked out, I could make a good profit off of the final product. I'm a Cloud Architect in my day job...
I had similar issues trying to install the petronix 1665A into my '69 with the stock coil. I had a small miss in the ignition and couldn't track it down. Tried starting it several times and wasn't getting any spark. I made sure I was never leaving the ignition in the on position for more than a...
Thanks for checking on it. I'm having a tough time tracking down a rebuilt kit, so I'm trying to find one with as little play as possible. Mine also has some dead spots, so looking for one that has none. I'll reach out to you if I'm not able to find what I'm looking for.
I have a '69 fj40 and finishing up on a frame off restoration. My steering gearbox has a lot of play, some dead spots and the pitman arm threads are pretty chewed up. I'm looking for a replacement that's in good condition with no play and no dead spots. It's the old school < early '72 kind where...
Hi @Alex Waddell, is this still available and if so, does it have any play before the pitman arm spline starts to move and/or does it have any dead spots?
Yeah, figured I'd need to find a new column for the rag adapter, but I can live with that. I wasn't sure if the pitman arm splines were the same. I've got a three speed shift on the floor, so shouldn't be an issue there.
Thanks @Jdc1 for the note on the larger steering wheel splines. Looking at SOR's parts listing, it looks like early '72 the steering column and gearbox were still one piece, like my '69. But, in late '72 they switched where the steering column was connected to the gearbox by a coupling. Aside...
Hi @FJ40 MATT do you still have the steering gearbox/column? I'm mainly interested in that. Do you know if there's any play in turning the shaft before the pitman arm moves?
I'm just finishing up on a frame off resto of my 69 fj40. I've got a lot of play and some dead spots in my steering gearbox and the pitman arm shaft threads have gotten pretty chewed up. I'm having trouble finding any rebuilt ones specifically for my year on the net. Is it possible to fit a 1972...
I'm on the home stretch of a 7yr frame off resto on a 69 fj40 and went a slightly different route. I wound up buying two of the rear red reflectors from SOR Land Cruiser Reflectors - https://www.sor.com/cat160.sor and then found some 3" DOT stick-on amber reflectors from Stick-On Round...
