Does any one have recommendations (good or bad) on sources for a remanufactured 4.5 I6 long block? (For a 97)
Trying to compare prices to having it done locally. Worried about downtime and shop not being familiar with the motor.
Is there something wrong with Crower Cams? I am planning out a rebuild of my 1FZ for a supercharger, and was looking at their cams. Has there been bad experience with them? They do offer custom grinds, if you know what to ask for. (Which I don't.)
Mine has the same problem. Lugs engine down to 400 rpm when compressor clutch kicks on.
Sure something is wrong in AC system. Have not figured out exactly what. Think it might have been overcharged. Compressor does not make noise except for sound of clutch engaging.
Since Profitt went under, are there any shops in UT up to doing a V8 swap?
My 1FZE is tired and very leaky. Would like to replace it with something with more power rather than rebuild it.
Thanks for the input. I understand I could pick 2nd FZJ for under $6k. My goal is to get the 97 back to a clean bill of health good for another 200k of dependable operation, swapping another high mileage motor with unknown history won't get me there. While $6k is a lot of money for a stock...
Cruiser outfitters referred me to Divinity Auto in Salt Lake, shop that specializes in Toyotas. They gave me a ballpark quote of $6k for a motor rebuild. Is that high or typical?
My 97's motor is using a quart of oil every 500 miles, 225k miles. Iron Pig tested compression, well within specs. They recommended head job and replacing lower oil seals.
Since then I've moved and am looking for a shop in UT, preferably Provo area that can work do good work on 1FZ...
My wife and I looked at a 200 and a Sequoia at a dealer's lot a couple of weeks ago. We want 200, we have an 80, and had 100 and another 80, love LCs.
While I love the idea of having the 5.7, 6 spd, torsen center diff, front coilovers and kinetic suspension, HATE the looks of the 200 compared...

Funny this thread is at the top. I happened to stopped at the Toyota dealership and compared the Sequoia and 200 today. I WANT a 200 (have an 80 and had a 100), but our kids are growing and I am looking for something to transport 8 people on a regular basis. I am very disappointed with the...
I am planning on doing exactly that, aquire a 200 series, get some high quality cutout fender flares, then run Tundra A-Arms and the 10.5 rear axle, put ARBs in both ends and run 35s. I had assumed that I would have to have the flares custom built, it's delightful that a solution is now...
Four years ago I bough a set of MT retreads with green diamond from Hi Tec. They had matched BFG AT carcusses, but tread looked horrible, many irregularities with voids blocks or fills in between the tread block. Tires did not balance well, and handled HORRIBLE on the highway! I would...
I had a set of the Silent Armors on an XJ when I lived in CO. I loved them, they got great traction (for an AT), handled well, did well in snow, lasted well. I think they are a great tire, at least as good as the BFG AT traction wise off road, just not as cool looking, I think they are quiter...
After 20 years of safe driving (other than an elk jumping out in front of me at night), last month I ran off the road for the first time. The street I was looking to turn right onto appeared sooner than expected, I tried taking a turn faster than I should have and did not make the corner but...
You could talk to Iron Pig Off Road, they are in Fredericksburg, just off of I95 exit 133. 540-361-7400. They do bodywork. Right now they have a beautiful 200 series in the shop (and lots of older TLCs).
Just be careful with the insurance thing. I assume the other person's insurance is...
