Drivability improved after capping that un-capped pipe.
However, fuel smell persisted.
In poking around further I pulled the hose out of the new charcoal canister and smelled for fuel. None.
Hmm....
That's when I noticed I had the purge valve plugged in backwards! Sheesh. I had the "CAN"...
Gracias.
I smoked it and found a culprit:
Capped:
No smoke anywhere else other than out the air filter housing. Will test and report back.
Re: Air filter housing. Mine has the accomdation for the heater thingy that is no longer installed. As a result that valve is closed and intake air...
You are my hero.
Do you know of other 3rd gen engine swap threads?
I ❤️ my 2017 Tacoma with the exception of the EFFING ENGINE AND TANSMISSION.
I'm more than capable of doing the kind of fab work you did in this build, but don't really know enough to be the first one to do it. I need...
I hate being "that guy" and asking to be spoon-fed, but in this case I think I need to be spoon-fed. Where, specifically on my setup, is the "direct source of vacuum"?
Team, I still have a nasty fuel smell after driving (and while extended 4x4 driving).
My nose tells me it's no longer leaking fuel anywhere near the fuel tank nor on the passenger side of the motor.
There is a pronounced fuel smell near the Holly Sniper.
I'm thinking of using my smoke tester...
Clearly that ain't gonna work ;-).
A few weeks ago we went up Kennebeck Pass to "the notch". Lovely time was had by all, especially Uglina. In her natural habitat.
For my new workshop (full thread on GarageJournal, here), I'm crafting a new hoist for Uglina's hardtop.
It's still under construction, but I found this "van roof rack" on Amazon, that I'm pretty happy with. It's not the prettiest thing in the world, and i have no idea if I'll ever use it as a...
My new workshop in Durango, Gruntled HQ, is coming along nicely. It's still the project vs. the place where projects happen, but that won't be for long.
I put Uglina on the lift yesterday just to test fitment/lift points. The short wheelbase makes things interesting.
My new shop in Durango is coming along nicely. Uglina has been stored there for the past few months. Today we poured concrete for the lifts and one of the doors was hung...
Off topic, but...
Any y'all know of a great concrete contractor in the Durango area? I need one for a commercial property I'm buying for my new workshop... Thanks.
Great thread. Excited to see this rig in person soon!
Did you consider extending the tub like Proffit does? I kinda like the idea of that, and think I'll do it after I drive Uglina into the ground and she needs another restoration. ;-)
Above shows how I replumbed everything.
The rig seems to be running fantanstic, so I think I got it right.
Too soon to tell if the fuel smell is actually gone though.
I was able to use one of the original mounting brackets from the OE charcoal canister, slightly elongating the mounting...
