I think it just got dry sitting over the summer in Phoenix. Started the truck up today and saw a nice steady stream of fuel coming from the carb sight glass. Obviously, I turned the truck off and cleaned up.
Anyone know where I can get a replacement gasket? Or, what people have used as a...
SOR steel OEM replacement...
I also put in a new fuel filter and I am cleaning all fuel lines that I cannot replace (the old tank was pretty crusty inside). I'm also wondering if I need to "prime" the system since the fuel lines will be essentially dry between the new tank and the carb.
thx
Hi guys - putting in a new gas tank into my '40. Also, new sender and lines.
Any thoughts or experiences on putting in replacement fuel tanks and lines? Prepping the tank, ensuring connections are tight (not only for leaks, but also smell/fumes).
Any thoughts as I prep to get the job done...
Other than turned on some rock and have a beer beside my cruiser? I pulled the passenger seat and fuel lines out prepping for a fuel system replacement.
My truck loves it when we have a beer and listen to some music together. Good times.
Hello -
I'm in the process of replacing my fuel tank on my '71. Project seems pretty straight forward. Ideally, I'd like to replace all the lines as well, but I am having trouble finding new OEM replacements for my hard line and the braided line coming out of the tank.
Does anyone have...
Hi all! I have done some research but not seeing an answer to (what I think) is a pretty easy question.
The check valve on the firewall of my 71 '40 (that feeds the vacuum shift valve) has a hose coming off the front, and it is connected to the base of the carb. I assume this is where it is...
I have never seen a dimpled wheel like that, but I do have that era wheel - leather wrapped and in very good condition (I think). I did a PS swap and put in a grant. I kept the "T" center button to put on the grant.
Okay - succeeded in pulling out the ugly weber carb the PO had put in. I think I am lined up for everything EXCEPT the fuel inlet.
I don't have any original toy carb parts. I have a soft line coming off the hard line that goes back to the fuel pump. At the end of the soft line there is a plug...
I figured it out with another couple of hours of searching. It appears to be the PCV hose. Comes off the top of the manifold and vents into the bottom of the weber carb via the "white plastic elbow".
Sorry - been off the board for a while. I live in the North Scottsdale area. I found a place to get the truck through, and as we speak, I am putting a Jim C rebuilt oe carb back in the truck (it is running a single barrel 32mm Weber now....).
Stupid question since I am not at all familiar with...
I have custom ordered braided brake hoses from Bonaco many times. I have no problem with MAF or others, but Bonaco offers product to your spec at a great price. Bonaco Brake lines and more - Brake Lines, Fuel Lines, Steel Braided Hose, Adapters and Fittings
Searched, but not sure what I found was exactly what I needed...
Building a "new" axle over the holiday break - what else have I got to do?
Need to install the new studs into the center of the axle housing (where I will mate the 3rd member later).
Anyone know the torque spec on this?
gracias
Move your radio wires to the side of the vehicle, don't run them throuh the middle of the drivetrain. Also, get better insulated wires. This has helped me in the past.
FYI....found out that there is one other difference between earlier year axle housings and later year...brake line bracketry is on different sides.
Don't know the details, but thought I would bring it up. Not a show stopper in my opinion.
Good point, John. Later years would allow me to skip the step that requires grinding out a little of the bell to fit in the longfields.
The rest of the dimensions etc are the same, I believe, to my 71.
In order to keep the '40 rolling while I retrofit the front axle, I have chosen to find another axle housing, do the work off-truck, then swap it on when it is ready.
Question: Are there any preferred years in terms of front axle housings for '40's? (Post- ball & claw, obviously)....
Gracias
Folks - I know someone that may be relocating to Iowa (Cedar Rapids area)...just curious as to any particular truck configuration issues he may need to be aware of (bumper height, stuff like that...).
Anyone have any input? Where could he get more information on state regs...
