I'm with Pin_Head. A running carb rarely 'floods'. A couple of screws will take the top of the carb off, clean out any sludge/grit/aliens you find and see how it runs.
Gas filter is also suspect. If it runs for awhile, the filter gets clogged, no gas to the carb, engine quits.
I'm thinking...
Just for the record, your standard vacuum guage will measure inches of mecury (inHg) not mm.
Normal is around 18 at idle, 25 or so when decelerating and anywhere down to 0 when getting into the throttle. Needle should be steady, if it floats, drops or is erratic there may be something else...
Yep, first gear is not synchronized. Either double clutch or come to a full stop before shifting. I sometimes shift into reverse then first before starting off. Of course the slop in the column shifter is an issue all by itself...
With the exception of a hot-rodded Impala in my youth, most of my cars have been kinda pokey. A/C VW's, Morris Minor, Volvo 122... I've discovered it's a whole lot more fun to enjoy the trip as well as the destination.
That being said, I had my '71 Fj40 up to about 70 once. Felt like I was just...
I've never put my hardtop on, but would hate to part with it "just in case" I needed it in the future.
The rollbar is normally my only protection from the elements. I'll probably even get rid of my softtop soon, but the hardtop seems to be worth hanging on to.
Okay, so I had a problem with my trans popping out of first. Advice from the board said just swap it out with another unit. 3-speeds are cheap
So I got another trans-tcase combo and started the deed. Then I noticed that the output shaft on the t-case didn't look so good.
My old one is fine...

It's a  job.
I read someplace here that you might need a higher output coil since the Pertronix isn't optimized for the dwell of a 6cyl. But mine works great right now and my points feeler-guages are just gathering dust.
It's just 'trons, we can outthink it...
Seriously, get a multi-meter and a wiring diagram. Automotive electical problems are a bear to fix, but it usually boils down to tedious diagnostics of "current" or "no current"
If you're backfiring on deceleration or running-on with the key turned off...
Poison is stuff you eat, there aren't too many 'poisonous' animals in AZ, but we do have a lot of 'venomous' critters. :D
I store my hardtop outside on a couple of sawhorses. Probably a bunch of scorpions and black-widows in there, but I've never actually had the top on my truck. It's not my...
Don't have a compressor answer, but what gun and bedliner are you using? I want to shoot my FJ40 as well and just have a some simple HF sprayers.
My compressor is okay for now, but that 220v dual-stage is on my list as well. Santa will be pretty busy this year...
It's three-on-the-tree, kinda clunky at first, but pretty cool when I got used to it. Putting another unit in sounds like a good choice. Should be able to do that myself.
Thanks for the PM Splitshot. I think he's already done a bunch of work on this Cruiser.
