1977 is running about 177° (infra red gun) at the freeze plugs when warmed up and idling but the temp gauge slowly moved all the way right as it warmed up. I think the gauge may be from a '79 (the amp meter is). Is the sender from a '79 different than a '77?
thanks
I'm using Coolerman's adaptor harness for installing an internally regulated alternator from a later vehicle into my '77. I had the alternator checked at the local Orileys to make sure it was charging.
I've triple-checked the tie-in of the adaptor harness to the factory harness. per...
Still working on my 10 year (so far) refresh project. If I connect both amp gauge wires together (bypassing the gauge) the motor fires right up. If I hook up the two wires to the gauge the motor will not crank and the amp gauge needle buries to discharge. The gauge also started to smoke...
Does someone have the size of the one small screw that retains the ignition switch? I lost mine sometime during the last 10 years of refreshtoration.
thanks
I've been trying to start my 40 recently after working on refreshening it for the last 10 years. (still not done but getting closer) The last time it ran was in 2013. Since then I've replaced the cobbled-up wiring harness with a nice original. I have the ignition circuit hooked up but I'm...
I have a '77 U.S. 40 that came with a ’81-’87 distributor & ’78-’80 igniter. The wiring harness was from a '79 and was a butchered mess. The vehicle ran 10 years ago when I brought it home and disassembled it. I acquired a nice '77 harness and am at a point of reassembly that I need help in...
My '77 had a severely bent frame and I was able to find a nice '74 frame as a replacement. Now that I'm to the point of installing all the brake lines I'm having a little trouble with hard line routing on the right side of the firewall and the two lines that are coiled right before they enter a...
Just wrapping-up the front axle refresh. When I purchased the vehicle it had a descent pair of SuperWinch locking hubs that I'm reusing. The left side had a washer & nut at the end of the birf. The right side had nothing. You can see by the pic that the birf does not protrude out far enough...
Doing my first knuckle rebuild. Everything is going pretty smooth so far. On the left side there were (2) shims (1.0 and 0.5) on the top and only one shim (1.0) on the bottom. I put it back together like that and only had 3 lbs of rotation tension. I removed the (0.5) shim from the top and...
I'm running a '81-'87 Distributor with a '78-'80 Igniter on my '77 with the original 2F motor. I would like to run Yazaki wires and Denso plugs, cap & rotor.
1.) Where could I source these items ?
2.) What plug wire set & plugs should I use? (I'm thinking from the same year 2F as the...
Should I use FelPro cork or FelPro rubber side cover gasket?
Also, I've had good results using Indian Head gasket sealer on other applications. Anyone use it on the side cover?
thanks
The PO installed a FJ60 dizzy in my '77. I'm in the process of cleaning it up. I partially disassembled it and noticed the bearing plate only moves a few degrees. I've got the bearing plate out of the body. It looks pretty corroded. The attached pics is from another distributor for...
While getting ready to paint the motor on my '77 I noticed that a PO bashed-in the side cover to clear the large cap distributor. It looks pretty bad, like done by a caveman. Is this a common practice? Does the late model side cover have a "factory dent", and can I use it on my '77 without...
Hygrade carb kit comes with these gaskets for both sides of the insulator. I don't think they were used originally. Should I use them? I'm concerned they might block the vacuum transfer grooves.
Does anyone know the metallurgy of this piece? I welded the cracks/breaks in mine with a 110 V Miller wire feeder with the wire I use for carbon steel and it seemed to work fine. After the fact I put a magnet to it and it would not stick.
