Landtank Fan Clutch- 6 Year Update

Most people who have gone electric have ended up regretting it. The fan clutch properly tuned is extremely reliable and a with a properly maintained cooling system, will not overheat in even the hottest climate. The desert Southwest in the US has as hot of a climate as the desert portions of...

Landtank Fan Clutch- 6 Year Update

We went through this years ago when people were first experimenting. IIRC, ToolsRUs was the one that first enlightened us to the practice in hot climates of heavier fluid. I recall him saying 10-15k CST and we all thought he was nuts. CruiserDan provided the input that Toyota sold clutch...

Landtank Fan Clutch- 6 Year Update

Final update on my clutch. Now at 273k miles and 8 years, it drifted out of adjustment again. This is no fault of Landtank's mod, for whatever reason, it appears the bimetallic spring in my clutch decided to start dying early. We had a heat wave two weeks ago and at 103f, my temps were going...

    Still overheating...everything replaced.

A few points: 1) When functioning properly, the fan clutch is engaged and pulling air on warm days on the highway. 2) As others have said, weatherstrip the radiator, calibrate and change the fluid on the clutch, and make sure the condenser isn’t plugged. You can tell when this is done right...

Would still love to see the dyno plot.

Mine still works and I like it in combo with the scanguage, as it gives me an instant data point.

    Bolt on turbo kit

I don’t want to know. At 9000 feet it is really starting to struggle, and my truck is light compared to most builds (ARB bumper). I know in general you lose 3% per 1000 feet of elevation, but I swear it is greater than that the higher the elevation.

    Bolt on turbo kit

I got 21 mpg recently, but that was driving from Truckee to Sacramento (6000 ft to sea level over 70 miles). With 33" tires, stock gears, and an ARB, I get 13-13.5 on trips averaging 70-80. New cats made a difference. For me, the turbo should nicely complement my setup with stock gears...

    Bolt on turbo kit

Just a thought, what about doing a non refundable deposit of $2000-3000, to firm up commitments, and allow committed cash in to help? I know I would put the full amount in now, but am waiting for some pesky clients to pay their bills.

    Bolt on turbo kit

We should respond like Rolls Royce and Bentley used to say in response to the question of horsepower and torque: “Adequate.”

What rear bumper is that on the turbo truck?

    Bolt on turbo kit

I double checked. I expected 275 at 5 psi. We are clearly seeing efficiency gains. I wouldn’t expect these gains until about 10-12 psi.

    This.

Took the gain of each (78% hp and 63% torque) and applied that to the stock horsepower and torque numbers (212 & 275).

    Bolt on turbo kit

Backing those numbers in to the crank numbers I get 375 hp and 450 ft/lb torque. Holy cow.

I have been eyeballing this wideband afr / boost combo. I like that you can map it to alarm it if the afr goes out of range. https://www.aemelectronics.com/products/wideband-uego-air-fuel-controllers/wideband-failsafe-gauge

70mph is the speed limit. Anything going under 80 is a rolling roadblock.

    Bolt on turbo kit

It isn’t the highest elevation, it is 8,000 feet. That said, between the steepness of the grades and speeds on that area of 395, it makes for a challenge.

    Auxiliary Fan Install

Moded fan clutch and seal all the gaps between the radiator and frame with weatherstripping. I have had my truck for 16 years and a modded clutch for more than 12. It wasn’t until I went through with weatherstripping, that my A/C went from ok went moving and not keeping the truck cool when in...
