not really...I think the radiator was replaced by PO (I've owned the cruiser for about three years) but I've had to patch it already, no idea about the water pump. I will check on the water pump when I get home, how difficult is the replacement? Many thanks.
my 60's cooling system has had some demons but I've replaced almost all of the hoses and things are better. The only time it starts to overheat is when I get in stop and go traffic or if I'm running errands a lot of times it will be very hot when I first crank it up but as long as I can keep...
Thanks Barry, I'll give you a shout if I decide to try it myself, but I will probably take it to a local guy who has done work on it in the past.
Again, showing my ignorance, I was thinking as I set out on this trip that the 60 was way overdue for an oil change. How much would that...
Thanks to all, that's exactly what I needed. I think it is just the gasket so it shouldn't be too bad, and it never got to where it was completely redlined.
The truck is a 1985 FJ60 and I'm located about an hour south of Memphis. I'll try to put that in a signature.
If the head is...
I've done some poking around online and it looks like the head gasket is blown. There is no mixing of oil or coolant yet, but the coolant is coming out, and pooling up, right at the gasket.
Replacing the head gasket is out of my league, how many hours of labor can I expect at an honest...
So.....I was in a rush to get somewhere yesterday morning and ran the cruiser too fast, pulling a heavy trailer.....
Steam smelling like coolant was coming out from under the hood by the time I got where I was going, but I was in a hurry so I didn't check it out. When I got ready to go home...
Awesome, thanks. Tom's probably 35 minutes from my house, but I will keep it in mind next time I've got a bigger project than my local guys want to deal with.
Thanks to you both. I need to get a FSM, and may give it a shot. Barry I would take you up on it I were any closer, but she would not make it down to Jacktown in this state. I'll post back when I get it squared away (or have parts spread out all over my driveway and don't know where they go...).
long time lurker (mostly on the main tech board), very spotty poster. I posted up about 2 years ago before I moved to Mississippi and was looking for a mechanic.
truck is a mostly stock 1985 FJ60, only mods are a 2 inch lift (approx) from the PO, a Weber carb (I'm switching to stock Aisan...
taking this off the main board as most of the questions I've asked there assume more wrenching knowledge than I've got (almost none).
my water pump is completely shot and pouring coolant like a waterfall. my local mechanic is pretty sick of seeing me, after recently replacing both the...
Thanks to you both. Yes, he's a good guy, and it's completely my fault. I went two hours out of town last weekend and on the way down could hear something knocking like a bolt was loose. I tightened two loose bolts but the noise came back, I said the hell with it and then about an hour later...
Mechanic just called and said "the whole deal" needs replacing, that Toyota wants over $600 and to try to find parts online. I can't figure out from looking in SOR exactly what he's talking about; thoughts? How big a headache is this to repair and if AC is busted should I have him fix that...
a co-worker is getting rid of a stainless brush guard for a 1998 Suburban, along with a XD9000i Warn winch. I know the bumper won't work on my 1985 60, so what's the cheapest reliable way for me to mount this winch to my stock bumper?
I would love to go ARB but don't have the cash, but...
no rims and good point, thanks. I looked on ebay and they are $450 new, w/ free shipping; if I decide to upgrade I'll probably drop the extra $100 for the piece of mind.
