Thanks, Rick.
Let's talk about an air leak in the exhaust. I guess rust is the culprit. How do I find the hole, and, does it really matter? What harm does it do, other than permanent cel?
Well, I got the Check Engine Light (CEL) today.:censor: Quick trip to Autozone, and the machine prints out P0420: Catalyst system efficiency below threshold -bank 1. The printout has 4 causes:
1. -Air leak in exhaust before rear O2 sensor
2. -Air flow sensor error
3. -Fuel system fault
4...
Why am I the only one here unhappy (=understatement) with the Revos on wet pavement? "hydroplaning in not too deep puddles" is worse than with BFG ATs, and on a heavier truck. Not impressed. Oh, and my Revos seem to be a nail magnet. Rant off!
Funny, I posted the same question a year or so ago, having the same problem you have. The consensus is that it's the rear main seal leaking, my undercarriage is covered in a thin film of oil. It doesn't drip on the pavement, and I smell some burned oil right after I start the engine, but...
...And what an update!
It was leaking from the chain tensioner gasket and lower oil pan. Got the chain gasket form CDan (he rocks!), used silicone on the lower pan. Fine and dandy for one month. Long highway trip (600 miles @70+mph), three days later starts to loose oil -again. Two quarts...
Well, rings are good =not smoking, oil pan bolts are tight, bellhousing is dry =not rear main seal, a bit wet under front one, but not much. I put some dye in the oil, and will do a black light inspection. Refilled on Fri, and Sat morning showed the same level =good!
My driving has been the same, every day. (Exciting, huh!)
Checked dipstick in the same place (front of house) and conditions.
I didn't do it the past two days, because I didn't think this oil drop was possible, without leaving a big puddle under the truck.
Because of work, if I don't take it...
 Ok, I'm baffled: since Monday morning (checked Thursday morning=3days), the oil level on the dipstick has gone from almost full to almost low level (just a little bit above low). Acording to the book, that's at least 1(ONE) quart of oil gone -in three days. Synthetic oil since...
On a previous truck, a bull bar and front receiver hitch bumper saved me a few grand, either out of my own pocket or in higher insurance premiums, besides the damage to the other car.
The issue is not "Whose fault was it?", but how to minimize damage to my truck -in extreme cases, save my skin...
Mods, feel free to move this post.
Ok, shameless plug for Marlin Crawler: about 5 months go I bought one $25 part from them, nothing else before or after. The other day I get in the mail a Christmas card from them, signed by Marlin Czajowski (hope I spelled his name right!) himself. I am...
"Depends on how you correct the caster. One advantage to drop brackets, the axle is not turned - except for whatever delta there may be from the drop to the actual sping height gain from spring variation (ala clown_midget). So the pinion should still be pointing at the same angle."
Yes, but the...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but, with a lift, the more caster correction one does, the bigger the front diff pinion angle. Stock driveshaft won't work anymore, transfer case and front diff exits being parallel. Christo Slee told me that his caster plates alone on J springs will cure caster...
This sounds about right: "The sliders are basically an extension of the frame. In a side impact, the force is being transferred to the frame not the occupants.
I believe the force of impact will be directed to the frame rails and crushing of the slider rather than the body sitting on top of the...
This is not about sliders, but I had a small er, "incident", when I rearended a Ford Escort with my Exploder. It had 3in lift, front brushguard, front receiver hitch and a step bumper that fits in that hitch. Results: his trunk hatch had to be replaced, and a rear light, almost 3 grand. I had...
Have an Aussie locker in my rear diff. Besides the noise, cannot tell it's there.
We're supposed to get some freezing rain tonight, let's see how the truck will handle...
Update: couldn't even tell if there was any ice at all! Between ABS, full-time 4wd, rear Aussie and new Revos (no CDL...
