    Central CO Trip support question

Hi - I plan to do some mild wheeling next week in the Vail/Leadville area. I'll be alone, have a well equipped 100, good recovery gear, and don't plan on getting in over my head. (knock on wood but I've been researching the trails and plan on underestimating instead of overestimating) I've got...

    Steel Brakeline attachment differing opinions

As I've done for the past 9 years, when I get into a situation like this, I post for all of thee who know more than I to weigh in on.....thanks in advance. Heading to CO on Sat for a week, some mild off roading involved (will have kids along). Got some steel brake lines last week, and my...

Forgot which Suspension option I have

Bought the 2.5" suspension kit from Slee a few years ago, but I forgot if I have the heavy or medium load. Does this do the trick or is it all the springs that make all the difference, and is there a visual indicator there? Thanks John

    Trailering my 100

Hi - Getting some conflicting advice, so figured this was a good place to ask. I want to trailer my 100 to CO on an aluminum trailer with tandem 3500lb axles. New 6ply tires. I'm hearing that I'm "no problem" to "you should be fine, but you're getting close to the max".....with regard to the...

    2006 Reliability

I've got 52K on my 2006, owned it for 9 years. Only problems I've had were broken exhaust (big rock in the Black hills) and the AHC, which has since been replaced with OME suspension. Maintenance has been perfect. What I'm asking is this: for off roading, I usually travel to Black Hills or...

    Help with Pricing accessories

Please move me if not appropriate for this specific forum. Not really a classified, more about pricing tech so thought this might be the place. Selling my 2006 to my parents (with first right of refusal to buy back of course). Not driving it enough (only 52K miles), and still have my FJ40, so...

Lingering Exhaust/muffler noise, dealer is stuck

I've had my FJ40 for 8 mos now. Love it, only one nagging issue that isn't quite getting resolved. Had a gasket in the exhaust system go bad, so I was getting a "rap rap rap" noise when I'd either downshift, or be off the gas going downhill. That seemed to fix it. Then when I went topless this...

    Vail to Aspen

Heading to the Vail area next week for 10 days. Trailering my FJ40. My wife and I are planning to head to Aspen for a couple days in the FJ40, and I'm interested in doing part of the trip off road. Looking for advice: Original thinking is maybe head to Leadville, do Hagerman Pass over to...

    Shift on the fly?

Hi, In looking through my owners manual, it makes it clear that to shift to 4Lo, I should be stopped, but what about if my hubs are locked going from 2Hi to 4Hi? And remind me too, with my ARB lockers, I don't need the T Case in N, do I? 2nd vehicle with lockers, but I've not had ARB's before...

    Synthetic Fluids

I'm being told no synthetic fluids in my FJ40 not for the "usual" reason (that their viscosity is so low it will leak) but that I have cork gaskets. It comes from an authority, I figure they know. My concern is that I'm in ND, and have weeks at a time where our temps can be single digits, or...

Any obscure tools for an FJ40?

As I await receiving my FJ in the coming weeks, I'm wondering if there are any special or strange tools that I may need for it. I've seen somewhere about a tool for aligning the rear brake drums, anything else? On one of my cars I was a bit under-tooled when I needed an inverted torx, don't...

BFG AT's - Severe Service rated or not?

I'm getting mixed info from tire dealer and websites. Are they or aren't they? I see Pro Comp AT's are.

    Snowtires worth it?

Please redirect me if necessary - up here in the north country, I run snowtires on all vehicles in the winter. We have been getting nearly 100" of snow the past couple years, and its very cold, so the ice sticks around. On my 40, however, I think I'll be driving it so much more carefully in the...

    2F Engine Electronics in a 79

Neophyte question here - what electrical components are there in my 2F? Its carbureted, so no fuel injection. Alternator, I'd assume, ignition system, what else? I was looking for a more primitive engine/engine management system than my 100, but I still don't know enough about engines to be...

FJ40 Experience, and as Daily Driver

I'm purchasing a 79 FJ40, stock, awesome shape, no plans for drivetrain modifications, has power steering. As I'm considering my investment in mods, bumpers, winch, rust-proofing, soft top, AC, lockers, etc., the slope can be pretty slippery. How are these as daily drivers? I've not had a...

    Engine questions

I'm looking at two FJ40's, one has the 1979 2F engine, most everything stock, the other has a 350T GM engine. The 2F is carburetor, the GM is fuel injected. Other than that, are they both reasonably equal as far as being electronically dependent? Also, I'm in an area with a Toyota dealer...

AHC (I know) maxed? Front sag

After 5 years, I still love my Cruiser. Only problems I've had with it are ones I've induced myself: torn out exhaust on huge rock, and my myriad of AHC adjustment issues over the past few years to compensate for my heavy metal mods. To be complete - slee rear bumper, slee rockers, ARB front...

    mp3 CD's

"mp3 CD" didn't return any search results. I'm surprised. I know I could check it out later, but I'm having a custom skid plate made, and am without my LC for a few days. Will mp3 CD's play in my 2006 changer? Its a DVD changer, stock unit. Thanks- John

Cabin Air Filter - Finally got a solution!

I know there are a couple threads on this, one of which is mine. I want to make sure this gets some exposure and not lost in Page 5 of a long thread. This has been bugging me for a long time (I first posted on this over two years ago) on the LX470 Filter Replacement DIY thread. I couldn't...

ARB Sahara + Synthetic line + which fairlead?

I am getting synthetic for my M8000, and was told I would have problems getting a good fit with a Hawse. A roller in good shape is fine, or so he said. Agree? I have trouble believing there isn't a Hawse that will fit that setup well. John
