I saw the 94 was graduation present for Number 1. So cool. Same for me. Number One got the “If you help keep it running, you can drive it. “. I have trained smart kids from top colleges that cannot “debug” a problem. I realized auto maintenance is an amazing training ground. “Engine not...
Thanks all for the advice. I kind of thought it would not be catastrophic failure, but was not sure and this helped.
I’ve had it almost 30 years now and brought all three kids home the hospital in it, taught them all to drive in it and skied, fished and camped with it. I will post a photo...
Hi fellow IH8Mudders,
I am looking for advice for my 1994 FZJ80. I am original owner and it has 142,000 miles on it. As far as I can remember, I have not replaced the water pump on it yet (I have all my receipts since purchase at dealer). I kind of feel like it’s a ticking time bomb. I...
Rainy Day in North East. Used the day to pull the back seats and check sticky Fuel Gauge. 1.) Removed Back Seats, 2.) Pulled carpet back, 3.) removed tank screws, 4.) Lifted out fuel float and "moved around" a bit to try and unstick from Full Position. 5.) Could not just replace rusted Wire...
11. Decided to really tighten up any rust under the truck. But it was weird. It seem like the Tank was a Rust Donor Sacrifice. Body behind tank was pristine, so I used a Truck Bed Poly Urea Coating to spray on the body before I put a new tank in.
12. So, the PITA part was getting all the...
OK, picking up on Full Fuel Tank Replacement.

Just finished up full 80 series fuel tank replacement. My truck since new, driven on East Coast, finally had a fuel smell I could not eliminate with the obvious Fuel Canister blockage etc issues. It was a tank leak from seam. Very rusted.
Process:
Remove Passenger Seats to access port and...
Ultimately, this turned into a decent project only because I decided to replace the smaller front strap. That is the one that is blocked. I ended up getting the body mount bolts removed and did a small 3 inch lift up on driver side, got the bolt out and put new strap in. I could have left the...
Thank you. It's actually not the longer strap that is the issue. When I was backing out the bolt on the front strap, the bolt snapped off, and I had to drill out the bolt. The issue is the short little strap that bolts into the frame. The bolt that holds that strap is right over the frame...
Has anyone successfully "partially" lifted a body off the frame to get at bolts like the Fuel Tank Strap or Filler Neck? I only need a few inches on the left side to remove the bolt that secures the Fuel Tank Strap anchor-to-body. When I back out the Bolt, it ends up hitting the frame. I have...
Yanked the old Fuel Tank that was leaking.
Removed the old fuel straps EXCEPT for the short front one, that bumps into the frame before the bolt will come out.
Amazingly even with all the rust on the tank, the body is pristine, so prepped and coated with Truck Bed Liner.
Started removing Body...
Added new clamps to Rear Heater hoses under passenger side rear heater pipes when came out of store and found a puddle of radiator fluid under driver side door. When I inspected the area, saw that one of the hose clamps had fully rusted off and was just attached by friction. Didn't have access...
Here are pics as requested.
I will start another thread on the install so I dont clutter up this one, but there are a bunch of things I have learned along the way. The biggest disappointment has been that once you get the iPhone 5, you HAVE to redo the whole USB cable configuration and buy...
Pioneer AVH-8500BHS install
Installed new Pioneer AVH-X8500BHS.
Pulled dash.
Soldered wiring harness and finished with shrink-wrap.
REMEMBER to UNPLUG factory amp next to Glove Box if you are using the Toyota alternative (Grey) harnesses and not the original connector ( I don't even...
Thanks for sharing. Installing Sub this weekend. What about filling the sides of the cooler with concrete? That would give it some serious cabinet heft. I have built some home theater sub cabinets by pouring concrete into a form. The punch pick-up versus MDF is notable.
For a less...
Installed two new Rear Gas pistons on the rear hatch. Second pair I had to do since owning the truck (20 years). I guess 10 years on each set is not too bad. Also planning on installing ground wire to finalize "re-install" of an old satellite radio I had in there a while ago.
Tried to...
