3 new plugs in. Fired straight up from cold. Took for drive, got up to 3k rpm uphill, plug tip still stuck. No sign of diesel blowing past on tickover but after driving the area was wet with fuel. Will give it another wiggle when cold.
Got a woodscrew half a turn into the stuck tip, but got no kind of puller. The screw is 5mm, same as the hole. 4mm screws aint long enough and its not easy to get stuff on the weekend here. Cranked the starter a few seconds as well, no joy. Tomorrow I'll get a new set of glow plugs, put 3 in...
Will try the puller method. Just looking at my taps, I've not got one that is long enough to reach the remains of the plug so will try the wood screw method from the other thread. Thanks for your advice and for linking to that thread. Had a look at the manual and seems like taking the head off...
Cable ok to the solenoid on top of injector pump? I had a diesel drip from the cold start and this area developed some gunge that was part grounding the solenoid connection, giving similar symptoms.
Thanks, that could work. I might struggle with space to manipulate a drill as its the 4th piston. The end of the plugs are tapered but is the taper in the swirl chamber or is it fitted into a tapered hole. If the hole isnt tapered i reckon i could knock it thru into the swirl chamber and...
1990 2L-T been struggling to start, 15 seconds of cranking, loads of smoke at start. So today I decided to replace plugs and do compression test while at it. Number 4 plug broke coming out and left its end in the hole. Photo shows plug alongside its buddy so u can see how much is missing.
I...
Hi Rosco. Yes i have the diaphragm cylinder actuator. The diaphragm shifts between 2 and 4 when vacuum is applied to one or other of the two vacuum lines to it. That all works as i can fudge it by putting the 2wd line where the 4wd one should go, or by putting 12v direct to the 2wd solenoid...
According to the wiring diagram, as well as the two solenoids I've described and pictured above, there is a third solenoid called VSV (transfer case). I dont know what VSV stands for but in the manual its named in french as "soupape de commutation a depression" which means valve to cut vacuum...
@OZcrusier
Hi Oz, have you got a good pic of that page please? Am having problems with transfer case controls. Solenoid switches into 2WD with 12V jumped from battery, but not from dashboard switch or shift lever. I can kinda see what's going with a voltmeter but don't actually know how it is...
Thanks, have downloaded manual. Will get some laptop time this aftnoon and have a look. My LJ has the mechanical injection and no ecu. Does it have a 4wd computer or is it done by relays. Multimeter shows a momentary blip on each solenoids connector as the shifter moves in and out of 4 with...
You can swap the vac lines from one to the other to test if vacuum and tcase are working. Swapping connectors round isnt a quick test cos they are keyed ie the 2wd connector doesnt fit the 4wd solenoid and vice versa. You can also jump 12v to the solenoid to see if it shifts.
Hi. I posted this in the 70 series section. Cross posting here as its likely same shifting system as other models

Hi. Spanish 1991 LJ73 manual with 2L-Tii. This is the 1991 onward model of the LJ7x.
Shifting from hi to low is mechanical but the same shifter activates relay/solenoid/vacuum to shift between 2wd and 4wd.
There is also a 4WD button on the dash to toggle 4hi and 2hi
Solenoids are pictured...
A leak can let air in without letting fuel out. Usually happens where old fuel line has gone brittle at a connector. Replace fuel lines. If you think air is coming from elsewhere put clear fuel lines on to diagnose.
