The eight skylights are flat double pane tempered glass. The glass is clear and allows a bit too much sunlight in.
The other concern is the increase of hail storms that could result in damage.
The main frames are 3/16" x 1" 6061 that were hand formed to a slight arch. The dome design will...
As many know the problem with pre 80's 40 frames cracking due to excessive flexing ( cold rivets) and lack of proper support on the cantilever spring mount.
This Arizona rig is cancer free and freshly sand blasted making it much easier to repair the crack and improve the spring mount design...
My nephew has a 3rd generation Taco that he's been building out for a little while now. He wanted some protection and also the ability to remove the sliders.
We started with 1/4" x 5" flat bar and a template of the existing (slotted ) holes on the frame as well as the required clearance holes...
A buddy lifted his Taco 3" using a Bilstein kit. He also replaced the UCA and up the tire and wheel size. He would get some contact at the forward cab body mount during moderate flexing.
He brought me the rig and I set out to make some added clearance.
I used a 5" hand grinder with a cut-off...
My nephew in Las Vegas ordered a raw bumper and had it shipped to me in Arizona. He's limited in tools so I offered to help him out but more importantly for to spend quality time with him.
The way the bumper was shipped.
More protection under the cardboard.
Being a fabricator myself I thought...
Picked up a Traeger at Costco last Thursday along with a couple of different flavors of pellets.
Assembled it and seasoned with the intention of trying it out yesterday. I also picked up a 5 pound brisket flat at Costco.
Having no experience in the art of smoking it went pretty well. I do...
I recently purchased this machine from Public Auctions, It came out of a local H.S wood shop in west Tucson.
The serial number indicates it was built in 1983 and for a older machine all the parts are present. It does have the typical damage found on many of these older machines due to poor...
A friend of mine purchased a new mill and had it shipped to my shop as he had no way of off loading it. The other factor was that he lives in a gated community with limited access for freight trucks. His drive way is quite steep and his garage header is only 7', so my fork lift would not be of...
Built this for a friend of mine that has been a big help to me. His work shop is also shared by two vehicles so space is limited. The press stand needed to have a minimal footprint and be able to roll. The stand was designed with legs that spread out 15º for stability as straight 8" x 18" legs...
I have been storing heavy dies in large bins on the floor over the past years making it a PITA. The real issue is loading large tooling onto the iron worker. Seems the older I get, the heavier the tooling gets so I designed a rolling die support table. The entire project was built utilizing...
Pulled the trigger on two new lathe chucks. The first upgrade is a 8" Bison 4 jaw scroll chuck with independent jaw fine adjustment. A back plate register was machined to match the chuck's register. One hour in the freezer (back plate) and she went together nicely.
A precision ground arbor was...
Had this project last month, The owner had jack knifed resulting in a twist in the 5" channel. The first order of business was to remove coupler and jack. The channel straightening was done cold using large clamps and forklift hydraulics.
A piece of 1/4" diamond top plate was cut to fit. The...
3/8" tempered glass secured using polished S/S glass clamps. Paint finish is hammer tone reduced with Xylene for spraying. Rivet nuts provide a 5/16"-18 thread for the glass clamps.
No filler required with careful grinding and final finish with flapper wheel (5" hand grinder).
I wanted to thank all my fellow Veterans on this special day (my personal favorite holiday), please take a moment and thank any and all Veterans you know, and give some thought to the ones that paid the ultimate sacrifice.

With the new shop in full swing, I found myself requiring tool storage for both automotive (4th bay) tools and machining tooling (3rd bay). Having too many rolling toolboxes would eat up space and probably get a bit counter productive.
Sometime back I found a work bench build by a guy that...
Fired up the CNC plasma table for a shooting range requiring some targets. The material used was 1/2" AR 500. The material was purchased some years back when a large (local) mine shut down copper production.
The material was to be used for bed liners (I believe ) and had predrilled counter sunk...
